What things do you do that give away how long you've been playing AC?

I had someone gift me 40 hybrid flowers yesterday, but they plucked each of them instead of digging them up so I couldn't do anything with the flowers I was given. I take it they were a New Leaf player.

I personally call my island, my town sometimes and I dig 2 holes next to any rock I hit to prevent myself from moving backwards when spam hitting the rock.

Me running in the flowers, I keep feeling my heart sink if the buds pops, assuming they are gone forever.

  • I like to dig holes when planting flowers in the breeding grid and I am very prone to flower plucking.
    • I don't know what's considered wear on the shovel (digging/burying) but I like to use Y to cover holes
  • Used my shovel over the flimsy axe to hit rocks for a bit.
  • Dug 2-3 holes behind rocks to cushion the recoil.
  • Thought trees could only be shook once.

- I almost never run when in other peoples towns, unless I'm on a path because I'm scared of wrecking their grass or flowers
- I always look for an open space to drop items on even though the path is empty
- I keep forgetting that pole vaulting is a thing and I just zoom to the bridge when I need to cross a river
- Calling my island a town, or the resident service town hall
- I always accidentally pick my flowers
- Wands ?? I have 'em but I've never used them and don't understand the point of them tbh
- literally so many other things lol

Wait, is there a reason why you wouldn't dig the 2-3 holes in this one?? I still get recoil when hitting it and have to dig the holes to make sure I get all 8 thingies.

Well, the first day I planted a crapton of my peaches expecting to get a perfect one and was left very confused. I also planted the cedars only in the north part of the island the first week, before realizing you could plant them everywhere now.

Other things I still do:
Walk around the X on the ground, because it "might be a pitfall seed"
Don't run too much when it's raining, "just in case so I don't fall" like in New Leaf
Dont plant trees right next to objects or a fence because before that didnt work, then realize it does work and having to move everythingly

I also think the wands are pointless, I can just go change in my wardrobe, I like to collect them only because they're cute

The flowers mess me up SO much!!

I always get the surprised Pikachu face when my tools break.

Wait, I have another one: I'm getting better at this because I worry about my shovel durability, but I would often forget about pressing Y to fill in the hole and just used the shovel. Which is funny, because the first Animal Crossing game I played extensively was Wild World and it did have this feature (only with pressing B). Problem is, I played it religiously as a kid and somehow never discovered this 😂 When I learned about it much later poking around the Internet I nearly lost my mind.

I also never figured out that cedar trees would only grow in the top half of town, probably because I rarely bothered planting any, so I had no trouble adapting to that feature in NH. Maybe I was just a dumb kid, lol

i always call it town hall, who has time to say resident services?? LOL
I also didn't realize flowers don't wither in the game, but i had the beautiful town ordinance in NL and when my friend was like "i gotta water my flowers or they'll die!" the other day i was like... omg the flowers don't die off on their own

I think they mean that in earlier games, players generally dug 3 holes in a straight line behind them, but now they did two holes diagonally. So the concept hasn't changed, but the execution has. I assume now people do two holes to cut down on shovel degradation... Or maybe it's just faster.

Oh nooo, all those plucked flowers! I really wish flower buds could be picked and then buried, so they would act as seeds.

I'm the opposite when it comes to holes! I still always dig 3 holes in straight line, instead of two diagonal holes on one of the corners. (I think the corner thing didn't work in earlier games - at least I never heard of or saw anyone doing it.)

If I try to do it diagonally, I often can't line myself up at the right angle and end up digging more holes around the boulder rather than hitting it. Oops!

I still dig holes behind me when hitting rocks for push back!
a friend saw me do this and was like "ohhh smart" haha

but same with the flowers, I still don't run through them and always cringe when I accidentally do

I was trading with someone today and I told them the items were "above my train station." I know it's the airport, but I've played New Leaf for so long I'm just used to calling it a train station.

oh GOOD i thought i was the only one who couldn't stop saying town rofl

i always wanna call my character my mayor and i walk SO GENTLY over my hybrids

also i'm sure i'm annoying my friends who just started the series with NH because every time they tell me about a villager i already have a super strong opinion about them and half the time i'll go OH I HAD THEM IN NEW LEAF!!

edit:
Also not freaking out about the 'real-time' factor. Content to wait and see what each day brings. :-]

mine is actually the opposite - all i did was TT in NL so it's taken some getting used this time around since i've chosen not to TT! i miss the instant gratification but looking forward to waking up in the morning is even better.

I do so many things in this thread, haha. A new one that I can add is that I still use the term "Uchi" villagers instead of Sisterly ones. I also actually do the opposite of the "avoid the Pitfall Seed" habit. I didn't think to just bury a Pitfall Seed in an unused area of the town to prevent new ones from spawning, so I always got rid of them by walking over. Every morning in NH, I still think, "I have to find that Pitfall Seed now!"

Also, I literally just tried to open a wardrobe to get access to the storage. I stared at the "Should I change?" prompt for literally 10 whole seconds before I remembered that I was doing it wrong.

- oH, AND I still am not used to being able to put items on top of custom paths :'D

Wait what.

... I literally just dropped everything so that I could try this out. I thought it would feel freeing to be able to drop items on custom designs, but I just feel very uncomfortable. : P

- I'm always scared to run in other people's towns in fear of destroying flowers.
- I also accidentally pick the flower blossoms when I'm really wanting to move the entire plant!
- I always forget that non-best-friends can't use shovels and axes, and worry that visitors from the internet will do something bad to my town.
- The tool ring still gives me trouble.
- I still call my island a town.
- Keep grumbling to my friends about features I dislike or features that were removed. "Well, back in the OLD games, we didn't have to worry about tools breaking!" "They got rid of all the best NPCs!" "Almost cried during K.K.'s introduction at the beginning of the game from Game Cube nostalgia."
- Friends who are new players consider me "the expert" and constantly ask me questions. I can rattle off the prices of random fish...
- When friends tell me who their starting villagers are, I know them and most likely have a history with them. "You have Kody? I used to terrorize him in Wild World..."

Who else is tempted to put things in the bin when they go to go Resident Services? LOL. I have to check myself.

I miss the locker at the train station so much.

So in NL, whatever you are holding will not be in your inventory unless you store it. When I capture tarrantulas in NH, I keep thinking I’ll have and extra space for them. Also I have a habit of constantly opening up my inventory even though I have a tool ring already.

Me too!!! The first time I saw them be called Sisterly I had the most intense cognitive dissonance. Like I still don't understand where it came from? You can't just switch things up on me like that, I'm old and set in my ways 😭

I just had this happen again and I had to come back to this thread to share again:
Does anyone else get a HUGE PIT in their stomach whenever you get a letter from a neighbor? I keep panicking thinking they moved out secretly even through I don't TT and I know that they have to ask you to move out. Every time I get a letter from one of my villagers I just immediately PANIC 😂
