What stupid thing can you just not catch/find?

I’m having a similar struggle to you but mine is for a pop-eyed goldfish! I’ve used sooo much fish bait in my pond and still haven’t found one!

For the longest time it was the walking stick. I was on a mystery island where it was full of the purple dung beetles.

I kept hearing this "bup-bup" noise alongside the beetles exploding off. I was so confused. Until I found it on my island and source of the noise.

I can't even describe the noise but it's weird.

It took me forever to get the Giant Trevally.

Finally, I randomly started up my game the other night at around 1am, went to the pier...and it was the first darn fish I caught. Lol. But...it was really driving me crazy for a while. I didn't have anywhere near as hard of a time catching the other pier fish. I used to see Tuna and Blue Marlin pretty often...and I hadn't seen that many of the Mahi...but I'd seen at least two or three of those. Just really not sure why the Trevally took so long to show his ugly mug.

A fly. I've tried for a few hours today and nothing. Now I'm periodically checking. Still nothing. The main thing is the fly is available 24/7/365, and I have about 400+ hours in the game, and have never seen a fly.

I see wharf roaches ALL the time... But when my villagers ask for them? Absolutely none in sight. I run all around my beaches and they never spawn LMFAO.

i'm about to save a few just for those errands at this point because lol same.

i caught a guppy once and sold it by accident bc of cj. haven't been able to find it since and it's such a pain.

the butterfly fish! it will not spawn!

Are you in the southern hemisphere? The butterfly fish is extremely common. I've cought maybe a few hundred during their appearance in the Northern Hemisphere. They are a very tiny shadow size. Any bigger and you'll be catching horse mackerals.

also i can't seem to find a rosalia batesi whenever i check my deforested area, i don't want to have to deal with stumps while i'm trying to make my island look pretty pleaseeee

I tried to catch one for 16 days and when I managed to finally get one, I kid you not, 3 more spawned at the same time in the stumps I used to "farm" it. I felt so insulted

Rn it's getting a third betta fish for CJ. Then again I haven't been trying all that hard and I never use fish bait lol. Many a crucian carp and bluegill have been caught and released

Working on collecting rosalia batesi beetles too but since they're obviously pretty darn rare, I'm not too angsty about them. Yet. Just snapping em up as I find em. 3 so far with 1 in the museum and 2 in storage. I have plans to do the same with the Mahi-mahi but also not concerned about time for it.

Also, Gulliver shows up like never. I guess because the new vendors the updates have added makes the chances of him appearing a lot rarer. On the bright side, guess it prevents me from getting too sick of hearing his dialogue?

I actually haven’t had a problem getting any bugs or fish.... I do farm a lot of though and at different times of days.

As far as items go.. Idk.. just being patient.

I left a tin can on the floor and have found flies on it occasionally. Can't say I've noticed anything on it recently. It will sit on the can, then fly away and back onto the can.

Caught a Ranchu Goldfish for the first time a few days ago and had no idea such a thing existed. Was quite shocked to see that it's year-round but I'd only just now caught one.

Been pretty fortunate, otherwise. All the stuff I see people posting about using hundreds of bait and failing, I've usually caught between 30-50 bait, but I almost always bait fish on mystery islands, which I think helps. Could be my imagination, though.

The mole cricket... I guess I just don't tend to hear them, and the few times I've got one to pop out, I mess it up and don't catch it in time.

I was grinding forever for the char. I've used a couple hundred bait at least. I was digging up clams while waiting for a trade one night and ended up finding it in like 5 bait which was nice but kinda hurt lol

Mine was the Mahi Mahi.. took over 200 bait :’(

For me finding bugs isn't a problem. The problem is finding the guy to sell the bugs to and make the bug models.
