What should I do with this extra copy?

My older sister bought a copy of ACNL a while ago so that she could create her own town, but quickly lost interest. Recently she has offered it up to me for free since she no longer uses it. I want to make use of it, but I really don?t have the energy or interest when it comes to managing a second town. I also don?t think I can use it for farming/storage/consistent foreign perfect fruit since I only have one DS, which is a huge bummer. My point is, is there any way I could put this copy to use without selling it?

With that extra cartridge, you can do all sorts of things with it! I highly recommend perfect fruit farm (make sure it is not the same as your main town) or making a huge hybrid breeding town so you can run a flower/landscaping shop on TBT. You also can use the town as extra storage for your main town so you can keep more goods on-hand to sell in a shop or just to keep to yourself. If you need another system, I recommend getting an original model 3DS since you can find them for relatively cheap now and all that you will be using it for is to exploit the extra cartridge and other games you may use an extra system for to unlock stuff.

Sadly I cannot afford another DS as I?m already finding it very difficult to save for a Switch as it is. I?ll probably keep it around in case the price on another DS drops to around the double digits or so, since I?ll probably still be playing ACNL for quite a while.

Makes sense, the Switch is a very expensive system to get into and get the most out of it (buying extra accessories and games alongside it). :/ You could always trade towards an original 3DS (or regular 2DS) if you have games that you don't need anymore or just don't see yourself replaying in the future.

Since you don't want to actively play the file my suggestion's use it for cycling if you have any Amiibo cards if that's something you're interested in.

Good idea. I actually regret not getting a 2DS since I literally never use the 3D function, but at least my XL has Pikachu on it so it all good. I wish I had a job but I?m too young (15) and busy with school to work!

I'd use it to farm weeds and zodiac stuff. Not sure if two copies using the same 3ds would cause problems for either. Maybe just streetpassing issues. Of course I'm not sure what is saved on the system.

You could always use it to set up a cycling town/villager shop? If earning collectibles or even paying for art is your kinda thing, you could do that to make some quick TBT, Or even set up an item shop infact.

My understanding was that two copies of Animal Crossing could not communicate with each other (i.e. trade) without two 3DS systems. Is there some loophole or feature that I am missing here? Can you Streetpass yourself or something...?

No, you can't streetpass yourself or anything like that unless you have two systems. Basically, you trading with yourself would most definitely have to involve you owning two 3DS systems in order to do that. However if you were to trade with other people, you'd only need one 3DS system.

Can confirm that you will not tag yourself with one system, having 2 towns in one system will not mess anythin up for either town, and it may not even mess up Steetpass. Just make sure you have Steetpass activated in both towns.

Town A the orginal: Steetpass is active
Town B the new town: *activates Steeetpass*
Town A: Steetpass is de-activated by default, so once you activate it again by talkin to Diby, both towns will have SP active again.

As for what to do with your town, villager cycling is good and gettin weeding items. I would say keep it as a casual town and maybe make hybrids.

Can you use a friend or a family members 3DS? Before I got another 3DS my adult son opened his gates so I could drop items, switch cartridges and than pick the items up. Waited till I had a lot of items before asking to move them.

Train station on this board might be able to help move your items from your towns.

Growing weeds would be helpful for other players. Most are looking to get the badge and some weeding furniture. Leif can be sleeping outside after you get 40 to 50 weeds. Visitor gets the out of town gift and host gets the in town gift. You could trade with the visitor for the furniture.
