What makes a perfect map?

What are things you guys look for in a map? Im resetting because i hate my map. What river placement do you prefer? thanks

I like the retail and town hall close to the train station, (right next to each other) because the shops are near each other, and I try to find a river going north to south because it's easier, (unfortunately mine is west to east) and a bridge that connects a town to another town sort of like.

i like having my retail near the island dock to sell beetles. I also like my house near the retail so I can store things. Those are really the only things I looked for!

I'm a Beetle hunter more than turnip trader so I prefer re-tail near the dock rather than the train station.
After living with different kinds of maps I have come to prefer the town tree to be close to something - either re-tail or town hall... Otherwise I feel it is a pain to walk over and see it every day.

This is my map and I find it absolutely perfect. I'd reset a million times just to get it again if I had to. The plaza's in the center of the map. Re-Tail is near the beach for those island trips. I love my isolated house. And the symmetry makes me happy~
