What makes a good map and a bad map?

Probably because perfect pears look a little bit like potatoes. Cherries, Peaches, and Apples all have very distinct shape and color. Pears and Oranges are very basic in shape and resemble other objects.

I've always wondered..wHY DO PEOPLE HATE PEARS? like that makes no sense..

I know right? Personally I like them.
I have golden perfect pears all over my main town and I think they look great. Especially around 5pm with the lighting but that's just me. :p

I prefer the land masses separated by the river to be mostly even, my first town had a large half and then a quite smaller half, and it kind of annoyed me a bit. I prefer the town hall to be towards the top half of town, the event plaza just needs to be in an area that it "fits," I don't know how to really describe it much more than that. Bridge placement has never really been something I paid attention to with it, as for beaches, I just don't like the ones that don't have a path to access them. I like to have only a couple ponds, no more than 2-3, and they need to be spread out. I prefer the river also ends at the "bottom" or lower half of town, not out the "sides." I like to have bends in the river where I can build things near it to where they appear to open out into it (I don't know how to really explain it other than that). As for fruits, it doesn't really matter, I'd prefer cherries or apples, but the others are alright too (I personally just think the cherry and apple have nice designs, with good color contrast).

Perfect pears are golden and they look perfectly fine...

Bad map: too badly placed rocks as Sholee said.

Pears are cool! Why you gotta hate on them, man...
The placement of the small lakes around the town and the rocks were my biggest concern. I wasn't too worried about the beach, but I was looking for how easy it was to access Re-Tail, the Town Hall and the Plaza.

IMO these are what I look for:

Retail/town hall/plaza in good areas
1-2 ponds
Rocks... The bane of my existence, lol
Decent open areas for pwp placements
A nice river

Here's my map. I luv it. It is my original and I'm super happy with it. image.jpg

How the heck did you get your villagers houses like that..

I plot resetted my @$$ off. Took me like 6 weeks to get them all in. (I kicked them all out to my cycle town first, and put up "dummy" pwp's).

Ha! Yeah, it started when one of my babies unexpectedly moved out. I decided to revamp my neighborhood. I originally had 6 on the neighborhood area, 2 in the top right near my park, and 2 at the top left near my plaza. It took a lot of time and patience. Of course, as soon as I had my 4th, top characters house paid off, again, Francine unexpectedly moved out, so I'm kicking the first villager out again as well and am going to cycle through 17 to replot them again. Ugh... Not going to keep my 4th character permanently anymore. Just going to put a pwp in his place in case it happens again.

I think it has to do with where things are located. And if the map is "complicated", as in it takes a bit longer to get to one side of the town from another.
