What is your town theme that you’re going for? One, or more than one? Is there a certain color palette you’re going for?

personally, I’m building a gothic-themed spooky town with lots of spooky and decayed trees in the white customization. I have a plain black path that leads throughout the town with minimal River, waterfalls and cliffs.
I also have all the white statues in an area with white graves. Then I have a “darker” area filled with black gazebo, black iron garden chairs and black gravestones.
With the new update I’m adding a hidden spooky witch cove that has the glowing moss items in grey/ purple, and the zen stone, gravestones, and creepy skeletons in the mossy style to all look overgrown.

I visit dream towns a lot, but it would be nice to hear your ideas for your town layout.

My town is a hot mess 🔥 🙃
  • I have food themed villagers (Zucker, Ketchup, Coco, Merengue, Frita, Chadder)
  • My theme song is that little ditty from Peppa Pig.
  • I am always wearing a fairy costume.
  • There is bamboo and torii gates everywhere.
  • The name is kinda cute (Pokki)
  • I dunno what I'm doing lol

I don't have a theme on this current map. I used to feel like I had to choose a theme simply because everyone else was. I felt like it limited my decorating too much. I'd find a really nice item I wanted to display but "oops, it doesn't match the theme so I can't use this I guess." Not having one allows me to decorate freely.

There are beautifully done towns that have stuck with a theme of course. My island might seem strange to others, but it's full of items that I personally like, not items that are there simply because they matched a theme, so it feels more special to me I think. Like my own little treasure cove.

The island is so big imo, the idea of a uniform theme feels very restrictive and also kind of boring. There’s enough space on the island to experiment with several different aesthetics at once. My island has a fairy section, a city section, a spa etc!

my theme is overgrown, abandoned and weathered. none of my villagers match the theme, i wear european style 24/7 and decorate my house like an european style. dont know whats going on with me. after all, my da is almost finished. my island name means babysitter if you translate hikomori to english. my little sister fault. but its still funny. color pallette is brown and green. obv. theme is vintage retro overgrown rural with japan taste but not much.

My town is nautical-themed, but it's kind of loose. It's definitely pretty woodsy/outdoorsy as well... I have a haunted woods to the west, a winery and market up north, an outdoor pizza cafe, and an ice cream/soda shop on the beach. Colorwise, I try to keep it in the blue/orange/white range, with some brown, green, red/pink, and yellow here and there. My villagers aren't really themed, but I do try to make their colors match with that range a little bit, with some exceptions. ^^;

Its a mix

I mainly have a zen themed town, with a mermaid and sea themed cafe, seafood restaurant and a cottagecore like camp, etc. My villagers don't really match the island aesthetic, but i don't really care to be honest, I like to have who i like more.

If I have a theme, its small village in the mountains. The houses are sort of organized, the museum has a spa next to it (the spa is my second villager's house). I have Ables and Nooks almost next to each other by an outdoor cafe and stairs that goes up into the hills where I have wishing well, camp ground, photo spot, star watching hill, 2 hot springs, a flower hill, a mushroom enchantedish clearing. On the beaches I have a scuba diving area, a monster (I have cannons that look like they are firing at it) a fishing spot, a classic beach a mermaid beach, an outdoor pirate diner, a spot that is meant to celebrate marine life and sailors, and is by the light house. Past the shops is a shrine, and a bamboo grove. I also have hidden grave, a 'hidden' racoon figure. I also have an orchard and farm that is connected to my home's yard, but no villagers can get in it due to my 'gates'. I also made an extension to the town square I decorate per season.

Mine started as a environmental reserve/national park. I treat it as if the animals themselves decided to build a more or less organized village in it, so it matches the idea of having a society of anthropomorphic animals that act kinda like humans but still live in their protected land. If you're old enough to know who Yogi Bear is, then you probably gets it.

My town's theme is Biomes.

I have a sizable Desert, a Jungle, a European-style farm, Alpine peaks, and a Japanese estate. Along with assorted smaller bits.

I am kind of considering tearing it down and redoing my island, but my Resident Services is awkwardly located for what I have in mind...

My town is definitely very forest-themed with witch/magic elements. It also has a secondary theming of everything towards the front being very cute and tidy while towards the back it gets seedier and creepier with a black market port for Redd, a broken foundation of a house where a summoning failed, and an overgrown castle containing a monster crawling out of a hole.

No matter what I do to my island (and I have new plans now that I'm unlocking all sorts of fun new items in HHP), it will always be vaguely natural or rustic in theme.

I have meandering one tile wide paths, forests, flowers, ponds and ducks everywhere. Only two bridges. There is a single incline somewhere but I may get rid of it now that we have climbing vines.

Currently I'm in love with the glowing moss series, so I have plans to set up a big area with lots of mossy stuff. Lots and lots. I need to get really lucky with the DIYs. 😅

My plan is to give my island a little bit of a ranch feel and a small town for the npc buildings but we will see how that will work out. Lol

My ultimate goal is a cottage/foresty type feel, with some brighter areas and some darker areas. Have redone it many times, and with the new stuff out am redoing it again, lol. It's like I know what I want, but can't seem to quite accomplish it.

I just reset before the update so right now I'm still in a 'gathering materials and upgrading stuff and moving in villagers' stage but I am planning to make my island a nautical/ocean/seaport type vibe modeled a bit after the city I named the new island after.
