A question that popped into my head while grocery shopping today as I've realised I've been too dependent on pasta lately. Need to talk myself out of eating it for both lunch and dinner.

What's your preferred starch with a meal?

NB: distinguishing between Italian pastas and Asian noodles as I know some people use 'noodles' interchangeably for both products.

Pasta is so easy and quick. I love baked potatoes and if I can be bothered stuffed potato skins (addicted to air fryer)

Potato and pastas are definitely my favourite. Potatoes are so versatile and can be done in many different ways and honestly just taste really good. Pasta is also delicious, most of my favourite meals are Italian pasta dishes, like lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, etc etc (you'd never guess by my username, would you?)

I'd say that apart from the odd day I'd be having pizza, I eat either potato or some form of pasta every day. Such good food fr

Voted for rice. I'm a rice guy. Rinse it, place it in the rice cooker, click it on and walk away.

You have to stir pasta often and usually have to strain it.

You have to peel, dice, and boil the potatoes if you're making mashed, strain them...it's a bit of a hassle. Mashed potatoes are good, but they take some prep time.

Potatoes! They’re my favorite because you can do so much with them and they taste great no matter how they’re cooked.♡
THIS 100%!

You got mashy taters, fries, tater salad, scalloped taters, hashiebrowns, home fries, baked taters, tarter toots... my heart 😍

I'm sure I forgot some.

I voted rice because I love rice, specifically jasmine rice, and I make it often, probably too often. It goes so well with everything else I love!

Italian pastas would be a very close second thanks to my childhood and reminiscent flavors and foods after being "force fed" meals by every Italian family in my neighborhood when I was just trying to play with my friends.

I still ate my Scottish Mom's food when I got home to be nice....

So many stomach aches with all of the food... no wonder I weigh too much 😂 (not complaining... so much amazing food!)

I'm Asian but dont eat rice much. I prefer noodles by far. I eat noodles at least once a day (usually for all my meals tbh), rice maybe once every other week, potato maybe a few times a year xD

Italian pasta for me! I could honestly have pasta every single night and be okay with it lol.
Rice would be second.

I like all these! I think this is my most favorite to least favorite;

Potatoes > Italian pasta > Bread > Asian noodles > rice

I never had Asian food growing up really so rice and noodles aren't really my default, but I do quite enjoy them.

I've been told to cut back on the carbs, so instead of the usual antipasto pasta salad, I've been going with a Greek vegetable salad. Raw cucumber, red onion, Kalamata olives, a light mystery dressing and little feta cheese crumbles.

Also this just popped up in my feed:
Mashed potatoes and mashed apples, topped with carmalized onions. Served with sausages.

I'll eat rice with just about anything (even on it's own LOL), so that's definitely my go-to! i do love potato products, though, so they're a close second lol

I believe in potato supremacy but I don't use them that much in my meals. I eat bread every day for breakfast but I try not to get too monotonous with one product for dinner. When I use rice one day I aim for pasta the next and so on.

Definitely potato products for first. Rice for second and bread for third. As much as I love bread, it really does matter that the bread is of good quality. I've had terribly made bread and I remember bread that has disappointed me. So, rice vs potato. Potato wins because of its many forms. There are so many ways to eat potatoes. Fried, boiled, baked, mashed. The possibilities are nearly endless. Rice is good comfort especially when its lightly salted. Definitely prefer white rice over brown and other kinds.

Po-tay-toes! Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew!

I voted for rice, Italian pastas, potato products, bread products and other. I prefer plain white rice and the occasional brown rice mixed with black beans.

When it comes to Italian pastas, I mainly prefer spaghetti, elbows/macaroni and lasagna (as long as it has plentiful ground beef and doesn't go overboard with cheese) I also prefer Alfredo sauce over tomato sauce, but I like both.

Potatoes are definitely where it's at. French fries, wedges, chips, mashed potatoes, stewed, baked, hash browns, tots.... Delicious! My favorites are French fries, wedges and mashed.

I enjoy bread products like sandwiches, breadsticks and bagels with cream cheese.

Other = pizza, pancakes, pound cake, empanadas.

Not sure, maybe rice because it goes with mapo tofu, kimchi rice, kimbap etc,
Or maybe bread because of sandwiches
I love potatoes, but often just eat potatoes and nothing else, like stuffed potatoes, fries
I mean there is not always starch with my meals and when there is, the starch is not a side dish but the main dish. (if it makes sense)
I dislike pasta.
