I just like to know how people like playing, and what play styles are most popular!

So how do you go about getting new villagers? No right or wrong way to play! Comment about why you prefer your method!

Personally, I have used amiibos for like 5/10 villagers because I already had them and I get frustrated when I have a bunch of villagers I don't love/dont fit my town. But my preferred method is island hopping not for specific villagers, but until I find someone I like. Gives me more control than random move in but still some randomness.

7/10 of my villagers are from amiibos because it's so much easier to get them imo ☆
i do like island hopping sometimes but i had to buy villagers like judy, raymond and reneigh because i couldn't find them

I used Amiibo for all of them. I even cycled out the initial villagers for their amiibo counterparts as to have their real houses.

No amiibo for Raymond and Dom though. They were just pure luck :)

In theory mine would be island hopping/purchasing from others, but it’s been about a month since I’ve had someone ping who I wanted to leave 😅 so atm it’s through the campsite. I’ve taken Stitches, Lucy, Drift and Zucker through there.

I actually have no preferred way, sometimes I try to push my luck by island hopping, but that usually never goes anywhere. So I often just settle with whoever moves in, moves in.

But if I do get an open plot, sometimes I scout to see if others are giving away villagers as I feel it's the safest option. I never plan to let these ones go. :)

I usually look at forums to see if someone is selling/giving away a dreamie, I got Lucky for 5NMTs and Diana for free that way... But Island Hopping is cool too, I got Audie with 4NMTs and Chief with 2NMTs, wasted 30NMTs to find no dreamie tho so I kinda prefer to look at the forums first to see if they have who I'm looking for so I won't get too tired and frustrated Island Hopping lol

Island hopping, which only worked for Audie and Reneigh

Campsiting worked the best for Judy

Bought Rosie off someone here

Amiboed in Marshal, Hopkins, Diana, Bob and Goldie

Island hopping is the most entertaining, because I like to meet and interact with all the different characters. If I have a specific villager in mind though, I’ll set aside an amount of tickets I’d be willing to pay to buy them from another player, and I’ll use whatever spare tickets I have to island hop first (usually at least 20 tries) before outright buying them.

I've tried island hopping and I'd rather not, the chances of finding who you want are so low and not tailored to any personalities you might not have, whereas campsite and randoms do. I don't TT but if I see someone I like in the campsite I'll genuinely consider moving them in.

Right now I'm looking to the forums for a new smug villlager instead of leaving it to a random move-in because so many of the smugs are not desirable to me I don't wanna risk it.

I do Island hopping mainly for the new villagers (that's how I got Raymond, Audie and Judy). For 5 others I still had Amiibo cards from before the cards got overwhelmingly popular and sold out. These are my favourite ones/dreamies. The rest are villagers from Island hopping as well, I'm inviting villagers that I encounter and like or might grow to like (like Ruby, she's adorable <3).

Bob, Ankha, and Marshal I purchased amiibos for. (Getting Tangy, Lolly, and Kabuki soon same way!)
I payed someone to get Olivia.
I did the campsite method for 8 hours to get Raymond, I also tried it for Audie, but my friend found her and gave her to me so I didn't have to do that for her.
The rest were either the DIY originals (i only have coco left), or found from island hopping! (Exception is Judy, someone gave her to me for free)

I prefer getting random move-ins because I like the surprise of it and not having control over who moves in (even though it sucks when I get someone I don't want, it feels so much better when I get someone I like). I just wish villagers didn't take forever to move in - I've had three move-outs so far, and two of their replacements have taken a week or more to move in (I'm at seven days and counting waiting for someone to buy Chadder's old plot).

Campsite is my second favourite (but I haven't found any campers I wanted to move in yet) and Nook Mile tickets are third; I like being able to see a bunch of villagers, but I'm not sure I like having all that control. The randomness is still good, though; so I might be using the tours more when I get further into the game.

I wouldn't want to use amiibo or trade for a villager, though; that just takes the thrill of the chase out for me.

What about the Void though?

I don't think I'd like the void, either; I'm not sure how much villagers will talk about their old island, but I remember in NL it got a little annoying when I adopted a villager from someone and they'd keep talking about their old town/mayor (another reason I wouldn't want to adopt anymore). As long as they don't constantly remind me of their old home I might be able to deal with it, although I'd still prefer a brand new villager with a personality dictated by what I'm missing.

Actually my thing is more of that people usually let go the villagers they hate, almost never a good one

Island hopping! I love seeing villagers I otherwise prob wouldnt, though i usually give up after like 10 islands and settle lol. Luckily I've been pretty lucky with the villagers I see on islands, I got sherb and audie after like 4-5 hops.

I really like the campsite too for the same reason, but unfortunately I've only had 3 visitors and I didn't want any of them lol (deena, gaston, that duck that looks like she'd want to speak to the manager)

I like amiibo because I'm a collector at heart and it feels nice to know that I'm guaranteed the villager that I want if I have the card. But recently I've made some online adoptions because it's still faster for me than using amiibo since that's a 3 or 4 day process. It's the only way I can expedite the process without time travel. I'm trying to be more patient but it is definitely hard to be patient for dreamies some times. I'm just excited!! Promise I'm trying though lol.
