What type of map is your least favourite/favourite? Personally, i don't like when the river creates thin strips of land that are impossible to landscape, or when the river takes up too much room/too long and loopy.

I think I could work with every map in theory, but I hate maps that have a lot of ponds. And I prefer it if the 'height' of the beach is even.

My map in my second game copy is kind of odd, to me anyways. The river runs somewhat through the middle of the map making a north and south, which I wouldn't mind however I can't reach the beach/ocean from the north side. Both paths to the beach are on the southern side of town, which makes it time consuming when I need to fish or check for shells - but that's mostly because I'm lazy lol. Ideally, I would want the most land with as little ponds and river bends as possible.

I really hates maps where the beach is uneven and the river is more on the right or something like that.

Ponds. I hate ponds. I also prefer U shaped rivers, even though some of them have that tiny land strip on them that are a bit difficult to work with (though villager houses fit there)

honestly the only thing i'm picky about is ponds, i can't tolerate having more than 2

and i guess a lot of river bends annoys me too but other than that i don't really care.

I dislike having too many ponds or too many rocks. Also, when the plaza is right next to the cliff, there isn't enough room to landscape with trees or bushes around it.

I love having a private beach, especially in a themed town, because then you can hide something there to make it worth someone's while to swim over and see. I also love when the river has a U-shape that's perfect for placing your house or a park or whatever--especially if the U is in the center of the map.

I'm ridiculously picky with my town maps. I hate maps with many ponds and rocks the most! Especially if they're right in front of the train station. My favorite are probably ones with a southern waterfall, a semi straight river, one long beach, and a central-ish town plaza.

I'm in there with the rocks. They're super annoying to me. I like it when towns have a visible waterfall (they're pretty), and I actually prefer a meandering river that's more on the East or West side, since the N-S is less divided more paths can go in that direction, and I think they work out better for pwp's and planting trees. Everything becomes so much more visible.

Sadly, my town looks nothing like this because when I started the game two years ago, I never thought about resetting it to get what I want. I have a river that divides the town N-S so the waterfall lets off on the East side and is not visible at all!

I really don't like my map layout. There's a stop of land at the top right thanks to the river that I can only really use for trees, so I put in an orchard. I also can't get very creative with my bridges seeing as there's such limited places they can go, I seem to have 3 areas of river that are pond shaped.
I love maps that have a big open space on each side, with an option to place at least one bridge diagonal would be even better. I've seen a few towns like these and really wish I hadn't got so far in the game for resetting.

Too many/Stupidly placed rocks and ponds are super annoying - my pond is right in between my plaza and my train station and my rocks are just in inconvenient spots

I don't like skinny strips of land or beach. You can't do anything with the land there, and I like to plant lots of banana and coconut trees on my beaches. Rocks don't bother me too much since I don't use paths, but that doesn't mean I like them. The number of ponds doesn't bother me as long as they're not in bad places. I don't like when two (or more) are close together and I like for all of the ponds in my town to be shaped differently. Having two identical ponds looks strange because you don't see that in real life, you know?

Layouts that have too many ponds. I once found this nice layout, but it had like 4 or 5 mini ponds all over it. :(

I don't necessarily have a favorite layout.

My favorite map layouts are these two.

The town I recently reset, Chestnut. RIP

This picture isn't mine, but this is also one of my favorite layouts.
Basically, the plaza has to be in the middle of the map for me to like it. And the town hall and re-tail have to be somewhat up top. :)
Anything other than these two I don't like.

I don't like a lot of rocks or ponds. I also don't like rivers that make it hard to landscape. When the river starts too high up & those little strips of land at the top are too skinny to put my house or campsite up there.

Like many people are saying, I dislike rocks and lots of ponds. I also dislike when buildings are too close to one another because there isn't much room to landscape. I like making big fancy entrances for my town halls, so if Re-tail happens to be right below the town hall it frustrates me.

I actually like the tiny strips of land on the sides. They are usually wide enough to squeeze in a 3x3 PWP such as the campsite and I find them nice to make tiny, almost secret gardens.
I also like centered town halls, rivers with little nooks in the, to put human resident's houses, south facing waterfalls, and THIS TYPE OF RAMP:

I LOVE this ramp. I love how there's a wall on each side.mit just looks so great, and also 100% of the time this kind of ramp will line up directly to the dock so you can Mae a nice start path and it's GREAT.

I've always wanted one of those isolated beaches, but I sadly don't have one, and also I really want my house to be partially surrounded by a river so people have to go all the way around in order to get into my house hehe and like have only 1 bridge in my town looooooool and i want my town tree to maybe somewhere in the bottom or in the upper area of town? like i dont really care about that but yeah that's really all i need everything else is not a problem to be worrying about xoxo

i'm fairly picky with my maps, but my two least favorite things are ponds and rocks. i've been map resetting my third town for a week now (not a week straight, of course, but still) and haven't found a good one yet, because every time i've found one i liked it's got five ponds and twenty rocks ._.
i'm also not a fan of maps with little islands if that island doesn't have a slope to the beach. that's one thing i wish i had thought of when i reset my main town, because i have to walk all the way to the other side of the town to get down to the beach.

forgot to say my favorite types ;;
i love vertical rivers where retail, town hall & the plaza are on one half and the other half is all open space. i honestly love any map with lots of open space, as that means lots of room to landscape. i also love secluded islands and vertical slopes to the beach.

I'm not ridiculously picky... I like to take each map as it comes, although I do prefer to have my town hall by the station.

Rocks are a pain, I do wish there was some way to find out where they were before you pick your map, or better still just not have them at all. I'm not a fan of blind beaches either, I like to be able to access my beaches easily.

But strangely I quite like ponds, when they are positioned well... in my second town, Azura, there are two huge ponds by my town plaza and with paths and flowers around them they look amazing :)

I also prefer the waterfalls that flow into the bottom of the map, not the side.

I am happy that I love all three maps for my towns as they are all totally different, I just uploaded them to the map thread and looking at them all together made me realise that each are perfect for the style of town I have planned.
