I've always been curious about this. Obviously, the longer the post the more bells you receive.

But is it per characters, per word count? Is there a max? Do certain forums give out different amount of bells?

Different boards do award different amounts of bells and yes there is a maximum.

I have been kind of wondering about the calculation myself! I know that really long posts can net you up to 10tbt but I'm not sure if it's counting by word or letter. I'm sure the mods don't want to be tooooo specific about the calculations because then people would try to exploit those loopholes just to get tbt.

A few things I've learned though, by reading the post regarding how bells win and how to earn them-- some forums will give you ZERO bells for posting. I think the marketplace is one of them, this one may be too. I can tell you after I post. I also learned that editing your posts changes the amount of bells earned for the post. It basically removes the bells you initially earned and recalculates them.

Also that spamming posts (like making posts that just say LOL) will get you your one tbt, but doing it enough will get you noticed by the mods and not in the good way. Lol

Edit: this particular forum thread DOES add bells, but I know there are some that don't.

Also, this is the thread I mentioned that gives you some further information without actually giving you the formula for how many bells you can earn and how to do so on the forums--

I was wondering about this too!

I've noticed that sometimes after making a lengthy post no bells are added to my account ):
and part of writing such long posts for me is honestly to earn TBT. Maybe it means that I hit my limit?
But then again I'm not sure how the limit works. Is it limited per day, or per forum?

edit: I just noticed that I got added bells after making this post. but earlier when I was writing in my journal, it didn't add bells ):

There is no limit, but some forum threads do not earn you any tbt. I would check out the link I posted, I believe it says specifically which ones. :)

I notice I get way more points on some boards than others. Especially for my super long-winded island journal posts (lol). But regularly I get 1-2 per post on most boards. Sometimes I get none at all! Also editing has cost me so many bells. Sometimes it takes them away, sometimes it doesn't! It's been difficult to pin where and when you'll get bells. Still, I post for the fun of it and the bells are just a fun bonus!

I actually looked at your link! ^^ it's very helpful thank you! it does say some forums don't give bells, but the journals definitely do

I just think I hit the limit (Vrisnem just said they exist in a post above) because I made 2 posts there (in the same thread) and I got around 10-15 bells from my first post, then my second post gave me 0. But when I post in other threads it does add to my bells!

I'm happy to clarify this one. When you post in the Island Journals board, you only get awarded bells for your first post that day. :)

@Vrisnem Are you able to tell us the maximum bells that any posting can net someone? I think the max I have gotten from any post is ten, but are there more bells to be earned from posting?

I'm going to be honest, I barely pay attention to how many bells I'm earning unless I am specifically saving up for something. Then I might get a little more wordy or in-depth than I might normally be on any given thread. Those ten-bell posts really help out with that lol

I didn't know editing took bells back! Never noticed I guess. I'll have to be more careful with grammar lol

Does it, though? If I look back at the earning history (which you can see here) I can recognise multiple edits, they look like this:

Untitled.png

Which is basically:
+5 bells for the post itself
-5 bells on the edit
+5 bells again for what the post is worth after the edit (same timestamp)

This would mean that correcting your grammar likely won't change anything. Removing part of the post would lower the amount of bells you get back after the post though, or you could gain more for expanding it. Seems fair to me: this prevents people from posting the entire script to bee movie, then editing the post into their actual short message, while keeping the amount of bells they got from when the post was long. :)

This is correct! You don't actually lose bells from editing unless you edit the post to be shorter than the original; simply correcting your grammar will only result in a recalculation and the system will credit back the same number of bells post-edit. The same goes if you edit a post to be longer, in which case it'll remove the original bells and award you a higher amount based on how long the new post is.

We don't share the exact formula for how bells are earned, but yes, some boards do award more while others don't award any. :)

I see, this makes sense! Thank you!
