His overall aesthetic is an alien/UFO theme
his patterns are suppose to be crop field patterns(think UFOs supposedly landing in crop fields and making patterns)
his name is suppose to be a reference to the Roswell incident

If you dont like his home you can always change it to what you think it should look like, if you have the dlc. Actually, now that I think about it, Roswell with a creepy ufo inspired home isn't such a bad idea.i shall have a gander!

I have him on my island! His house is like a little food stall in an alley. He has a little booth with a deep fryer and there's seating made of plastic crates in the front. I like it, actually!
He's my permanent smug on my island. I didn't mind his house interior as well but I have a themed island and I want my villagers to fit.
He's located near this jungle area and I ended up changing his interior to a likeness of an antique mall. Or anyone has watched the show American Pickers, I wanted his home to give off an eerie feeling like "where did he get all this?" I added some small alien motifs as well.

I love him, I've very very slowly been trying to make my island more sci-fi themed and he's my smug. I think he's definitely at least a little bit robot, on top of being an alien... The eyes just seem so robotic!
Like what others have said, Roswell's name comes from Roswell, New Mexico, US. As for his design, his eyes look very similar to the dogu statue, which some believe could be of alien origin. The swirl patterns on his body remind me of crop circles. So that being said, there is a very, high chance Roswell might either be an alien or a scifi lover.
Roswell is a compilation of famous alien references from movies and pop culture. His name is based on the town Roswell, famous for an alien coverup. His patterns are based on crop circles, which occasionally are seen in fields where people claim they were made by aliens. His house is based on the common trope in the East of a food vendor who is secretly an undercover alien. Presumably Roswell himself is an undercover alien at well, the alligator appearance being just a disguise and his odd eyes being a giveaway that he's really not a normal Alligator. Also, there's a trope that aliens see all our broadcasting and get an odd idea of what humans are like as a result, so his Smug personality goes with that as well. IMO he's one of the most clever designs in the game. I had him in my town awhile and enjoyed him.
