I'm thankful for this thread because this is something I've thought about before, and I wondered what if there was some etiquette involved.
Something I've been trying to do lately, with this in mind, is putting villagers "up for adoption" (for free) at a site like this so that my neighbors moving out won't go to that voided spot. But there are some neighbors that people just aren't interested in, so they're hard to even give away for free. So then I kind of wonder what to do then? :/ But as far as I know, I haven't done this to anyone yet. I WiFi with my dad a lot, and he pretty much never lets anyone move out, and therefore his town is always full, so my voided neighbor can't move into his town, and then gets 'officially' voided (I guess that's how it works).
And if it happened to me, I might be inwardly very annoyed, but I wouldn't fault the other person for it. I think this whole voided-neighbor-moving-to-another-town thing is tricky. It doesn't seem to always happen...? Like a few people in this thread have given examples of times when a voided neighbor didn't move to their town. I wish I knew all the specifics of how this works, like how long can a voided neighbor be in your out slot, etc.
