What if you were able to change the colour of the river?

So I just got this great idea that they could implement in a future update and it's being able to change the color of the river water according to what you put in there and if there are trees and canopy nearby.

They could also make it so that you can buy roiboi tea bags from Timmy and Tommy that you can put inside your aquariums so that the water turns into that classical yellowish/black color just like with real life aquariums

I was thinking that if they make it so that leaves drop from nearby trees they could end up in the river eventually causing it to get stained in a colour of black or yellowish brown like in a blackwater river of a tropical rainforest such as the amazon rainforest

They might be able to create some interesting mechanics from this such as during certain times of the year when the dry or wet season would occur in the jungle certain types of blackwater fish like cardinal tetras or neons can always be caught there and nowhere else for extra realism.

If they made it possible to build things like huge outdoor ponds and giant trees you might be able to create little mini jungles for you to explore and catch fish along with bugs that will only spawn there such as the peanuthead bug which is a very real insect native to south america or the firehead tetras native to the waters of the Rio negro river.

What do you think of this idea and would you like to have a feature like this inside the game?

As an aquarist and someone who loves nature(especially rainforests) along with the animals in it that would be awesome.

There have been a few times in this game where I actually thought the color of the water might have changed a bit as the seasons changed...but, I kinda think that was more a trick of light than anything else. I mean...sure, I'd be a fan of the water changing slightly for the seasons. I don't think it's "necessary"...and I could list a bunch of other features that I'd rather have first. But, I would be in favor of it. It would be a nice way to make the daily experience feel a little less "samey" all the time. They could also add faster flow to the river, and large waves to the beach during heavy rain or storms...and maybe a drought feature during the peak of the summer, where you can't fish in the river, but you can hop across it without the pole (because it's really low). Also, the river and ponds should freeze in the winter. Again, allowing you to move freely across them. You can still fish, but you need to break a hole in the ice. Yeah...I'd like all of that.

As someone who is also enthusiastic about nature and ecosystems, I would absolutely LOVE this idea! I am always open to new stuff related to plants and other natural features, as most of my island is dedicated to a wild forest.

I’m not sure how they would be able to implement it, though. It seems like a concept that would take a ton of work to do right. I’m also pretty sure that they aren’t going to add more fish/bugs, no matter how cool that would be. Finally, as much as I love making a wild island I think big N wants NH to be about going from wilderness to civilization, so I think any meaty update will lead to making more buildings/development advancements, not wild ecosystems...

I mean I'd love this but I feel like it would be very hard to incorporate. maybe there could be an option to visit islands with special ecosystems via nmt but I don't think it will be possible to do on our main island.

just for the river dying part it could be green on st. patricks day and on other days you could be able to buy dye to color it yourself but that deviates a lot from your natural idea

It'd be cool to see different colors of water for the rivers. It'd definitely have to go through Tom Nook with design changing mechanics than an instant change.

That way it allows the game to update itself but the only negative is water connected to the oceans. That might be weird. I can't imagine having green-radioactive water and then what happens at the river mouths.

If they ever add new bugs, they should make a clump of gnats and if our character walks into it, they react angrily.

As much as I love nature and ecosystems.....I don't see the point.

Add more natural bridges, sure
A small change in hue for seasons, sure
lilypads that act the equivalent of weeds for the water, sure

But I don't see the point in putting teabag like items into the water to change its color for both rivers and aquariums.

I think the idea is interesting, but there are honestly other things I’d like to be improved or added before thinking about having the ability to change river colors. If they planned on doing something like this, they would have had the option maybe at the start as one of the things you could reroll (like how there are different airpot variations and map layouts). With that being said, I would like fog and mist be something you could apply to specific parts of the island as a permanent effect or to use the cloudy flooring outside. Again, still is one of the things lower on the priority list for me. My main concern is them adding more furniture (orderable too) and at least one building like Brewster’s; things that have more function than just being something to look at.

I'd want a chocolate River like in Charlie's chocolate factory

Damn, I'd love this. Having play rollercoaster tycoon 2 alot.. hell yes. i mean tbf it should be like a terraform option imo rather than anything else, but i'd love it.

I think that's a great idea and I believe it would be the natural way to go for the next gen game for full customization of one's town/island. Changing the grass and water to match the atmosphere of your island would simply be amazing, imagine lavender grass for dreamy islands! Changing the sky would be nice too, say making cherry blossoms fly over the screen all year round if one wants that.

that'd be kinda cool :)
i just want it to be able to freeze in the winter

but yeah, i'd make mine filthy. on purpose. lmao

Frozen rivers/lakes would be the coolest! I know someone has made a frozen path to mimic that but it would be really cool if you could walk across the actual rivers. They could even use the same slip and fall running mechanic they do when you try to run with a balloon. I'd love to see them do even just a limited time event where all water was frozen- maybe an ice fishing event!

Both colourisation and freezing wouldn't make too much sense for the rivers (since they are usually a water spring running down to the sea) though the idea sounds neat. Not that I think I'd use it, but more customisation never hurts I guess?

that would be crazy cool! I have a tropical jungle themed island so I would want some ponds to be swamp green, and maybe make the river an aquamarine color.

this isn’t a feature that i’d ever thought about before but it definitely could be interesting! like @Dunquixote said, there’s other features that i’d love to have added in or fixed first but once those are out of the way, i wouldn’t be mad about something like this at all!

loool when i read the thread title, i was like, HECK YEAH I'LL MAKE MINE PORPLE

i like OP's actual idea a lot too though!!!!

I like this idea. Probably shouldn't be from nearby trees since people would get annoyed about their rivers being stained yellow, but it's an interesting concept. Especially if it changes the types of fish.

Reminds me of how you could change the water color in Spore and I'm all for it
Funnily enough this was also my first thought when reading this post.

I think this would be a pretty neat idea. Having it change based on season could be pretty cool too. What if the river could freeze over in the winter, or be lower than normal during the summer? I think cool details like that would be pretty nice to have. Though there are a lot of other features I would like to see first, this is a pretty cool one as well.

I don't want to offend anyone, but in my opinion this idea is like a "tweak" which could be used in game, when anyone is intending to modding it.
Same way, why not change color of the sky? Green sky could be nice. Why not to change color of the beach? Some may think a blue sand is beautiful. I do understand those needs.
As ACNH is not available for user modding, not released on PC - I will not expect anything like this may happen (officially).
If someone is playing older versions of Animal Crossing, but not on original console, but using emulation - has ability to alter the look of many elements - for example replacing textures.
I do really understand "own taste" and if someone wants for example blue sand on the beach, why not to have it, as we meant to have a freedom, but realistically our freedom is restricted.
I like to modify games, but games with availability to do so. For example Minecraft. I never accepted original look, so only way to keep me in Minecraft universe was improve it. Another bit I want to modify was IMO look of villagers. I was experimenting with creating different look, different styles - sometimes I was using pre-made texture packs.
