What if New Horizons villagers become available as Amiibo?

It needs to be a full set of new villagers in one pack. My collection for amiibo cards/figures are complete and I would pass if it's random cards in a pack. If they sold the amiibo thru the Eshop I would buy them there.

Other players wouldn't be able to adopt the new villagers amiibo if they work like the Sanrio amiibo cards. ACNL didn't allow adopting them. I could see Nintendo doing this with the new villager cards.

Depends if the exterior glitch is fixed by then... I've seen people say that it was fixed(?) but the last time I used an amiibo card to force a moveout, Fang moved right into Olaf's house.
Otherwise I'd really love to buy a Reneigh card! While I was super hyped for Raymond when he was announced and spent hundreds of NMT island hopping, the fandom weirdness has kind of ruined him for me? I definitely wouldn't turn him down to sell though I've been lucky to find Audie and Judy early on <3

I assume the new villagers will come with a new series of cards, which will include the previously missed and new special characters as well.

A part of me also thought Nintendo might 'treat' us by adding the Sanrio set into the new series as well. I paid through the nose trying to get those in NL and I only ended up with Chelsea and Rilla.

I have a bunch of blank NFC tags that I can use to make whichever I want, so the main benefit for me would be people uploading it online. Then I could let Dom go without worry about not getting him back, try out Sherb, and start cycling out Raymond for free in my second town.

I wouldn't be interested.

I didn't buy any of the other amiibo cards either, for the record. For collectables, they are rather small. You can't really see the detail of the art well, and unless you have many to create a card wall with, it seems a bit awkward to just stick a few up on the wall.

I also don't like the random aspect of the cards, and how you don't know what you'll get. I know it's a big money-making draw for Nintendo, but it just doesn't seem worth it, to buy a lot of cards and potentially end up with no villagers you wanted or with a ton of doubles.

Oh, I was thinking you meant the actual figure Amiibo, not just the cards.

Apparently they ARE doing another printing starting in Japan, but it hasn't been said as to whether the new characters will be among them.

from what I read, what they are doing in japan, (and plan to do in the us and probably the rest of the world eventually) is to restock the already released amiibo cards, and continuing to sell them to the level of demand (?).

In japan the price is the same as before, 330¥ for 1 pack (which is about 3 usd) of 3 cards. So I assume the us pack price would once again be about 6-7 $ for a pack of 6 card.

however this seems like bad news for any new horizons specific amiibo cards, if they are still only getting ready to re-release the old cards (I think pre-orders started in japan in May and ended June 30th). If we only get the old amiibos selling from Nintendo again at the end of this year or early next year, it seems like new horizons specific cards would be pretty far off.

maybe I’m just being pessimistic about the timeline

As much as I enjoy the randomness of island hopping and the camp site I just bought a bunch of my dreamie amiibo cards last week. My plan is to cycle through the cards to get their photos and then continue on to the randomness.

I personally wouldn't! I got Judy and Sherb with absolute luck (Sherb is my 1st NMT and Judy my 7th or 8th NMT!) and I don't see myself really wanting any other of the new ones :) Audie is probably the closest one I'd want that I don't have yet, but I love my permanents so much I don't think I can make room for Audie anymore.
