Oh wow, how bizarre....I never even thought about it having a cut off date. So I guess 2050 would just continue on a repeat basis after that? Weird. I might even try it in this new town I've got....

Nintendo aren't preparing for the future, I see. Fairly sure the old DS systems only went to 2037 or something like that, so at least it's a bit of an improvement over Wild World. I think all they've done with the 3DS is keep the 32-bit Unix time-keeping system and bump the times forwards a bit as I'm fairly sure its range is 1970-2037.
With 64-bit, the range is absolutely insane which is why, as it just loops around, setting the date to 1900 on a modern iPhone can brick it, as something odd happens, causing the date to go back before 1900 to somewhere far off into the future and it doesn't really know what to do.
Note: Just looked it up and the range actually reaches to early 2038, but there's no point having a fraction of a year, is there?

Well, it's 2016 now, so it will be 2050 in 34 more years. So you'd be 58 years old. Your 3DS will probably still work then unless you do something to break it or play it so much that you kill the battery. I have an SNES that still works, so I don't see how the 3DS would be different. Obviously, ACNL will be obsolete well before 2050. You'll probably be able to play something much better on your phone by then.
I don't know if the people who still play the GC version or WW or CF still religiously play the game day by day in real time or if they don't care that much. If someone really, really wants to play ACNL in 2051 in "real time", then that person could set the game back to a year where the dates and the day of the week are the same as 2051 and play that way with Easter being the only day that's really off.

I play Wild World every Monday to get an art piece from Redd. It may be in real-time but it's not the same as playing day and night, is it? Exceeded the furniture limit on my fake art exhibit so am at a bit of a loss now, lol. Go to http://1drv.ms/1oByTvD and you'll see my museum still needs a lot more art. Ugh!
