What exactly is plot resetting?

I hear the term plot resetting often but I have no idea what it means lol... Could someone explain? I'm pretty confused but it sounds like something I could use.

It's when you choose where a villager will place their house when they move in. It helps keeping your town organized and pretty, and also prevents the houses from destroying your hybrids, being too close to your house/PWPs and ruining the view, etc.
