So I?m restarting my third copy of the game (which may end up being my main project town) what do you look for when restarting? I personally look at the map, and town fruit. Basically things that can?t be changed later (like villagers for instance). I like maps with lots of space, like no thin areas at the top or made by the placement of the river c:

That’s a Good point! I’ve never finished a towns aesthetic though, so I want to start fresh and work from the ground up! (My other two towns have succumbed to being used as item hoarding/ cycle towns :( )

i like to look at pond and rock placements because they can get in the way of landscaping. i also like to look at the train station and town hall colours! i actually didn't know there were different colours until a few months after i started.. so when i reset my town i made sure to try and get the colours i liked.

I usually try to imagine where I would build my mayor's house, the cafe, and the police station.

I don't like to have too many ponds, and the native fruit must be different from the native fruit in my other town(s).

Also, I usually avoid maps where the second beach can only be accessed with a swimsuit.

I never think to look at rocks when STARTING a town, I always get the town started and then get annoyed by the rock placements later on. Thank you!!

Funny you said that, I actually prefer to have a lil beach that can only be accessed with wetsuits because I like landscaping my beaches to be lil beachy nooks with lost items and stumps and shells and whatnot!

When I was resetting, I refused to have peaches as my native fruit. A Bias from my Wild World town because I always was getting peaches. I like horizontal rivers, long beaches. Also I like my mayor house to be close to the plaza, retail, town hall, etc.

I like to have minimal ponds and I look at how the rock placement is.

Re-Tail has be close to the dock

I like to have a little section of beach that isn't accessible unless you dive or swim to it

No pears are allowed

I like to look at it and pick a great place to plot my home

I like a lot of open area for pwps

I also like to have a pretty even amount of space on both sides of the river

and if I also am kinda picky about starter villagers too

Most players seem to dislike ponds but I love them. They can be fun to work with. I was lucky enough to get 4 in Taiga, but I hope to get 6 when I start my second town.

I look for a lot of what's been previously mentioned. I also look at the beach, I prefer a long connected one. The town halls location is also something I look at.

1. At least, one or two ponds. I don't mind the number of rocks. They can be remedied through landscaping.
2. Apple/Peach/Cherry as native fruit.
3. Big open area for PWPs
4. Small, separate area for the villager houses.
5. Town plaza should be on the side or could be at the center like in a peninsula as long as it's out of the way. It can be pretty hard to put/build stuff around them which could also mean less space to build PWPs.
6. I'm not picky when it comes to beach so any will do.
7. Any town layout that I can conveniently build vertical or horizontal bridges. Not a fan of diagonal.
8. Re-tail and town hall could be anywhere lol. Campground near the town plaza or some area near the villager houses.

That's all I can think for now.

I've never restarted, but I'll post what I said in the 'What do You Look For In A Perfect Map' topic from yesterday, which is basically the same.

A long beach, with a small private one.

I don't care about grass shape.
The river, horizontal, in the center of the map.

Re-Tail not far from the beach.

Lots of ponds.

I actually chose the first map I was shown, without knowing anything, and it turned out to be perfect.

Apart from 7 rocks.

Holding ponds (I like at least five, but will settle for four), town hall (I like the yellow or green one dependent on the fruits: yellow for oranges, peaches; green for apples, cherries and pears), one long beach with no separation (it's not a deal breaker, but is my preference), an open waterfall so I can build my house in front of it. Other than those, I just really like a map I find pretty or interesting or unusual. I enjoy twisting rivers with alcoves that can house villagers or public works projects. It's always super fun beginning a new town.
