As the title says, I'm curious as to what people find appealing in maps. I've finally gotten my 5th copy today, and so far the resetting is going poorly simply due to bum maps. I'd like to get some feedback on what you guys like.

Personally, Retail HAS to be near the train tracks for me and the river has to be horizontal and mostly straight. But I fear I'm being too picky.

Do you folks like vertical rivers? How's that work out? Any input would be nice really, or pictures, anything uvu (I know there's already a map thread but this is also about me maybe expanding my horizons so all of my maps don't look the same)

I personally look for big, clean areas that allow for lots of PWP projects and paths etc. I like to customise my town so the less ponds it has and the neater a river it has the better.

I'm currently resetting for my new town x.x I've been through a lot xD

My Hopes:

Peaches/Cherries as native fruit
1-2 lakes
A not so bumpy river
Big, empty spots
A bigger private beach

Yeah, I feel you there. I like to have equal amounts of space both above and below the river. (Also holy **** your sig is the cutest goddamn thing ooooomg)

Interesting! Since I'm resetting for a map AND the right villagers, I can't be too picky. What I find intriguing is that you like your private beaches -- I hate them! XD I have one I think and I can't stand it hahaha. But yeah I'm finding that people really like straight rivers.

i've been playing with the villager placement trick. goal is to have all 10 villagers in a line :D

From the map posting thread. I don't think I've ever been more jealous of someone's map. The only thing I would need is for Retail to be at the top, oh god it's beautiful... (I think that's actually the river Misaki has and yet I can never find that layout with Retail on top because rover haTES ME)

The main things I look for are a private beach, Retail near the train station and Town Hall near the top of the map, and open areas to build in with no narrow areas. I also make sure rocks and ponds aren't going to get in the way of things, and I prefer peaches as my fruit. I dislike horizontal rivers because I feel like neither side gives me enough room to do what I want. I like having one large section and a smaller section off in one of the bottom corners.

This is the map to my first town, which I'm absolutely in love with. There are no narrow areas, it has peaches, a private beach, circle grass, the ponds and rocks are out of the way for the most part, Town Hall is near the top and Retail is near the train station, and I even started with Beau.

This is the map for my second town. I would never use this as my map for my main town because there's just not a whole lot of room to build, and there are a lot of super annoying rocks. Thankfully I'm not planning on developing this town much. I do like the little area for my house though.

Ahh! I like your second town map, actually, just because the river is more straight! Like, for some reason I just can't HANDLE that river that's all like... Weird... like that... in your main town. Idk why, maybe I'm skewing things incorrectly? But it feels like it'd be stifling. Perhaps not. But I like your towns :D I'm hoping to try to start with Roscoe and without a peppy or normal so I can plot reset for Ruby or Nan. Then I have to try to find Lyman somewhere. ;A; I hope I'm not being too picky... (I also really want apples or oranges because I have every other fruit and I have two towns with pears and I'M SO SICK OF PEARS)

I'm going to reset soon but I'm looking for-

Short river
Low Permanent Rocks
Private Beach
1-2 Ponds
Not too wiggly river
Peaches/Cherries/Apples

:3

I think most people like horizontal rivers, but I like having little areas I can develop separately from the rest of my town. I'm planning on turning the smaller area of my main town into some kind of park. I got lucky with mine though because a lot of maps with rivers like mine end up with really narrow areas that are impossible to do anything with. Omfg I feel you about the pear thing though but with oranges. My friend had oranges in both of his towns and I had oranges in my last town and AGAIN in my second town and I'm so sick of them.

I am a big fan of symmetry and I have always liked long rivers. I especially like the U-shaped rivers with the plaza in the middle. I have to admit that i am very picky, even the lake in the river has to be where the river flows straight, not in a curve. ;)

I find this all very interesting! I swear I'm far too picky, I wish I was a little more limber with maps because resetting for both a map AND villagers is hellish///

I'm very surprised that I'm like literally the only person who doesn't like private beaches omfg

- town hall above plaza
- orange/apple/cherry
- private beach (lol)
- vertical river
- 1-2 ponds
- tolerable rocks
- triangle grass
- retail close to station

I like Piroshi's first map more.

I'm not picky about villagers because that can be easily remedied xD A layout, however, is permanent

I love private beaches xD I find them adorable :)

I feel you on the 1-2 ponds, I sadly haven't got a town with just one, but I've seen towns with SIX PONDS AND IT WAS THE MOST HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
again with the private beaches! lmao
at least I'm not the only person who needs retail up near the tracks. @A@
But ah! Interesting to see that you like vertical rivers :D

Sadly, all the villagers I need now are T5s and I'm really super impatient so I'd rather start with at least one of them and be able to plot reset for another one. /lays on floor

I kinda copy and pasted this from another thread, but yeah.
Musts: Non-jagged U-shaped river.
Villagers: Must have at least 2 tier 1 villagers (To fund my new town's PWP's, ordinances etc.).
Grass:
Circle: +1
Square: -1
Triangle: Neutral

Train/Town Hall roof:
Red: +1
Blue: Neutral
Others: -1

Fruit:
Apples/Cherries: +1
Pears/Oranges: -1
Peaches: Neutral

Math:
Must have at least 3 points to consider keeping
Neutral + Neutral = +1

I want:
-Private Beach
-Apples or Oranges (although I wouldn't mind having pears)
-1 river
-Re-Tail near docks
-LOTS AND LOTS of space
-Triangle grass (preferably)

I'm not really sure if I care where the Plaza and Town Hall are at. It's nice having the plaza in the middle, though.

I didn't exactly look for anything on mine besides the fact that re-tail had to be near the tracks and the plaza was in the center, and oranges. I'd have chosen a circle grass but I didn't know you could do that at the time D:

I have four ponds and they're honestly a really nice looking thing in my game. It makes watering flowers a little bit of a trick, but it's nothing you can't work against!

Oh wow!! You really have it down! O: I'm actually a little confused about what the "grass" portion means. Isn't all grass the same..? OH MY GOD I'M SO DUMB LOL

again with the grass omf WHAT DOES IT MEAN HAVE I BEEN MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING FOR ALMOST A YEAR CAUSE IM PRETTY SURE I HAVE
yeah plaza and town hall are sort of "whatever" to me, though I do SORTA like having town hall up top just so it's easy to reach? dunno. and wow, retail near the docks? Very interesting! O: I like to see everyones' different tastes c8

I'M SO CONFUSED ABOUT GRASS SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN SO I DON'T LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT OMG
4 ponds is 2much4me oh noooo, but at least they're in good places! I actually like your town a lot, it's really cute. The river is nice, it's just probably the ponds that bug me the most.

Maps with lots of space
Triangle grass
Native fruit for apples
Not too many perma rocks
A nice straight river no U shaped ones -_- they make the map feel smaller personally. I like the town tree away from the train tracks, i like my re-tail center in a small community like area with the other villager houses and i like my town hall away from the tracks as well

THE GRASS IF U GET DA TRIANGLE GRASS U GET STAR SHAPED SNOW PATTERNS IN WINTER.

the grass is haunting me what does it mean
I'll take the little teensy U shaped ones if it's all I can get, but those straight rivers really are important to me. And yeah, I feel you on the plaza being away from the tracks... I sorta like it on the bottom half, actually.
