Don't reset for villagers you want! In fact, hope not to get them. This way you'll be able to reset for everyone's house location. c:
Star snow is really cool. -had triangle in old town-
Most of the resets I did either gave me brown or green and sometimes red... I didn't get to really experience the blue. =<
... Maybe when I reset my cycle town I'll aim for a blue roof. >D
I do hate that both my new town and my cycle town has apples... that has to change when I reset the cycle town. >.>
Please tell me where you find the time to play 5 copies? what do you do with all your copies?
are they all hard copies or do you have downloaded as well?
My first town has a long river that comes all the way out, goes all the way back and down to create a kind of island in the middle of the map. The only thing I don't like about it is that it needs one more bridge than you can have at max in the game. Otherwise its a nice little central park area with the plaza on the far left (near the cliff and just below the water falls from the cliff and above the water falls to the beach!) it makes a private beach that I have my house right in front of and only one other animal could live above me (usually my 'bestie'). I have all my shops, town hall etc ALL in a line at the very top of the map. It kind of makes another high/main street. I have retail, then brewsters to the left of my train station and the town hall and booker to the right. I would have put the camp on the far left if I could but decided to make another feature with it down in the bottom right corner near the beach with my mule character. I only have one pond. (sorry for wall of text). I like this layout since I have a relatively simple town with hardly any PWP's. drawbacks are not enough bridges, retail so far away from the island pier, not a heap of room for PWP's. Cons, Everything is in a nice row at the top! I have a private park and great access to the town square (which I love because its so pretty there and I see all the visitors straight away). All my townies tend to congregate in the park lands in the centre and its cute. easy layout of paths.
In my second town I have retail right next to the pier, and two ponds. the clif is on the right side rather than the left side. I have a river that runs half way down and then cuts south near the middle of the map, the town hall mid of the map far left. I wanted to try out a simpler map with things a bit different to what I have in the first town. So far I like it! If I could I would re-start my first town and have it exactly the same but with a river cutting it in the centre.
I would also like to try out one of the towns that has a plaza right in the middle of the map with the river running around it. But I would love to have all my shops and town hall up the top again if I could.
Re -tail and the town hall have to be either vertically or horizontally parallel. They also have to be on the upper half of town, near the train station, either both on one side of the gate close to eachother, or on opposite sides, an equal distance from the gate. If they are on the same side, the re-tail pond has to be in between them.
Town hall needs a dark blue roof and the train station needs a green or orange one. I hate ponds so I only want one.
River has to be horizontal and straight for at least 3/4 of it. House goes in the section that isn't straight (preferably surrounded on two sides by river and cliff on one side, but I gueeeeess I can live with it being surrounded by the river on three sides, but only if it's in the center of the map. Also, the river had to divide the town so 2/3 of the town is above it and 1/3 of the town is below it.
Beach has to be on the right and bottom sides of the map. I hate private beaches unless they are extremely large.*
I prefer bad villagers so I can plot reset so the good ones are in good places. Obviously I won't reset if the villagers are good though.
Rocks can not interfere with straight paths of land where I want to put streets of villagers.
I looove triangle grass, but I guess square grass is okay. Circle grass is ugly ewwww.
I hate orange, peach and apple trees. Unfortunately my town has oranges, but it's awesome enough to not reset. Oh well, I don't like perfect fruit that much so I'll just use imperfect foreign fruit.
Town tree goes on the side of the gate that retail and the town hall aren't on. If they're on opposite sides, it can go somewhere on the bottom half I guess.

This is my current town:

I'm satisfied with it but I wish I did some things differently. (Placement of my house and campsite) The out of place house is Merengue's D: She refuses to budge.
I think if I had to start over, my ideal town would have...
- cherries or apples as native fruit (cherries preferable)
- red or blue train station (red preferable)
- blue or brown roof town hall (blue preferable)
- any grass (I guess I'd prefer circle)
- vertical river (The waterfalls are beautiful!)
- re-tail near train station
- 1 or 2 ponds (1 preferable)

This is basically my ideal map except
- I would have preferred apples as native fruit
- A more central town tree would have made it perfect![]()
But other than that I'm happy!
Yeah, bug selling is pretty easy with the location I have now but I feel bad for people who sell turnips in my town. I've been thinking of starting a new town with my cycling copy and transfer my dreamies over to that town but am a bit hesitant because of all my progress ):Ooh, another vertical river lover! Interesting! Your current town is okayish to me, but god do I hate that Retail being on the bottom. Though someone brought up a good point about how it's better for Retail to be on the bottom if you're selling bugs O:
Oooh, very intriguing! I like how it has pretty much equal sides, so one isn't too squished or anything. The placement of Retail would personally kill me but otherwise I do like itIt's mostly symmetrical which is great!
It's interesting how people want retail close to the train station but for me, I like to have it near my house and on the bottom halfit's easily accessible that way for me. Im not sure why everyone wants it near the train station :/
For selling turnips quickly/letting others in to sell turnips or buy expensive items or villagers.
I mostly just want my water features a certain way - both ponds, front-facing waterfall, the private beach, and no permanent buildings near the start of the waterfall since that's where I put my house. I also really wanted peaches and I reset for like 2-3 hours just to get a map with peaches that had the water features I wanted, too, so I didn't really want to narrow it down any further than that d: I really wish it was more customizable, tbh :/

Oh I also like a little C-bend in the river to nestle the Cafe into :3
I wanted the perfect peaches, though d:

I actually did cut them all down to make it easier to plan D:

I like my map a lot, personally.
Though maps with straighter rivers are really appealing to me. I have also seen nice maps with the u-shaped river with the plaza in the middle. I think that layout is pretty neat as well.
I've noticed and taken a liking to maps where the river makes things as symmetrical as possible with land. Placement of things hasn't ever been one of my concerns though, besides villager homes. \:
