What do you do to keep ACNL interesting?

I take a very long break...sometimes up to six months....
When I come back, I just end up resetting...
It all started after I lost Maple in my first town Ambrose...
Things just haven't been the same since.

I don't know why I'm still interested, but I am. I started back on June 11, 2013, and haven't missed a day yet. I've had quite a few dropout over those near 20 months too, but I still play this thing everyday. I know some I played with burned themselves out speeding through the game. They said they "may comeback" to playing again, but I'm starting to doubt they will, they will probably comeback when the next one comes out. I saw the same thing happen in 2007 with Wild World, people stopped, but came back in 2008 with City Folk.

I think what keeps me coming back is that I set yearly goals. My first year was to get all gold badges, something I was able to do! StreetPass was the final one, and took having 4 freaking systems to get enough tags in time. The next goal is what I'm in now, and it's to grow/arrange my flowers, including all hybrids- as well as keeping all 10 villagers (so far, 15 months later all 10 are still there). So far, this flower growing is one of the slowest things I have ever run across in a video game! It still excites me though when I start up the new day with the anticipation- did I get any new hybrids? I already set year 3 goals, and they're not really all that challenging- reach 1,000 continuous days (shouldn't be a problem given I'm over 600 now, and this is on a handheld system, not like I HAVE to be home to play it), reach 1,000 visitors (approaching 700 now), obtain 12,345 island medals (easier than you think, I crossed 11,000 already), and "goldify" one of my player houses- setting up furniture now to prepare for the challenge, then I'll return his house interior back, and give away the furniture. After that, I don't know, year 4 may be when I'm "done" with New Leaf- as if I'll ever truly be done, I still play Wild World periodically approaching 10 years after I got it!

Oh, almost forgot. February, 2014 I picked up the Japanese version of New Leaf, and also play that town everyday, and I take my NA one to get some Japan only events to get items. Setsubun will be the last holiday I haven't experienced yet in NA or JP, so that will keep me interested through at least next month. Hopefully, all my flowers are grown, so I can start helping my Japanese player get a better looking town by taking my American player over there with some extra hybrids he was able to grow the next few months (I have the Beautiful Ordinance in NA, Night Owl in Japan, so I can't do too many, Japanese one will have to water all these).

a whole town makeover
remove the pwps, trees and qr codes and start fresh again~

A lot of people don't like to theme their towns, but I think there a lot of fun to create. It's kept me busy for over a year.

Also, pika6221 mentioned growing hybrids. It is a long process, but it is exciting to start up your game and check to see what hybrids you got. I started getting bored a long while back, and growing blue roses got me back into the game.I ended up with so many, that I started giving away pairs of them. Now i'm working on purple and orange roses.

I don't do the "dreamies" thing anymore. I let go whoever wants to move and adopt whoever is available. It keeps the game interesting for me coz I get to meet a lot of villagers. I wish to meet them all if possible.

Ironically, drawings make it more interesting.

It's fun to draw villagers with your headcanon, as it makes it so much interesting than what the game can accomplish.

Speaking of headcanons, it's my personal headcanon that Pecan is the "pretty squirrel princess" that Marshal was talking about, and she in fact (along with Pit, who is the mayor of Smashville, and Marshal) forms a proverbial Holy Triforce, with...
Pecan as the Triforce of Wisdom,
Pit as the Triforce of Courage, and
Marshal as the Triforce of Power.

i usually time travel into a different season. seeing the different grass, sky, and lighting is really refreshing!

ive bought three copies of ac:nl and am thinking of buying another one for cycling once i'm done w/ the current town n.n

This forum,

I love trading, chatting etc. when I'm not playing the game, it keeps the game interesting for me :)

I spend most of my time just decorating my house and my town, making qr codes and updating my wardrobe.

pretty fun actually but once i finish one players house i move on to the next players house

make a backstory, get goals for myself, be like 'aight im gon lanscape this area by this villagers house YEAH'
also try to catch as many fish/bugs/sea creatures as i can for the month. also completing museum and buildin relationships w villagers IM GETTIN PUMPED JUST BY TYPIN THIS POST YEAH

Like with my headcanons. You see, when Biskit moved away, I like to believe that...

Biskit had fallen off the cliff, thus leading Pit to believe he had taken his own short life. The angel mayor had believed that Marshal had manipulated the poor dog to do this, and he was heartbroken. He never wanted to forget his best friend, so he planted a huge garden in memoriam of his fallen friend. Little did he know, Biskit had survived the fall, so when he visited Main Street, Pit was surprised! His own best friend, whom he thought had left God's Green Earth, was still alive!
