Walking around my little neighborhood of villagers... And I see... Marshal.... Holding a shovel!?!? Is this something new with the Welcome Amiibo update because I've only seen the villagers holding watering cans?

I see villagers hold shovels all the time

In fact del is holding a shovel right niw in front of me

Yes, villagers do hold shovels for no apparent reason whatsoever. At least the villagers holding fishing rods and bug nets are normal, .-.’

I've seen them hold everything.

Back in WW, the first time I saw Wolfgang outside, was 4.00 AM in the morning, carrying a shovel.

This is back in 2005, and I knew nothing about the game. I thought he was burying bodies.
He was such a cool grouch - then.

Wolfgang is always telling me he wants to dig a secret tunnel. Before he was telling me he was afraid Gracie was mentally unstable so I think he's trying to hide.

Since they don't catch any fish or bugs with their nets and rods, I'm assuming they have the shovel for (not) digging up fossils.

The villagers can hold the fishing rod & net and they try to catch fish/insects. They also water flowers!! A single flower with their plain ol' watering can. You don't see any mysterious holes in your town because i don't think they actually use the shovel

It would be cute if they can hold pinwheels and balloons! :)

I don't interact with villagers much so I guess this is why I never noticed the shovel. Marshal was later angry with Static so I think Marshal might be thinking of burying Static alive 0.o

Just awhile ago I saw a villager holding a net :p

It's actually interesting that villagers hold a shovel but never use it like they use the fishing rod,
net or watering can. Would be funny when a villager would dig random holes in the ground or just
plant random a tree on a free space in the town.

I'm so thankful they can't plant random trees. Otherwise I'd be constantly following around my villagers with a shovel:mad:

It's cute when they are fishing in the river though; you can get some funny dialogue out of them if you talk to them while they fish.

Okay, but what if they would only do it at the beginning of the game, like when you start a new
town. There are not many trees and by planting trees, they just try to help their new mayor to
develop the town a little bit and would then stop doing it as soon as the town has more trees.
If you ask me, I would like it when they would do it...

I already remove most of the original trees once I start landscaping. Adding more of them just makes me have to cut more down.

So it just occured to me that the villagers could use the shovel as a weapon... Not just to bury their victims 0.o

Every time a grump holds a shovel for me they always say something like "(villager) said they were worried about pitfall seeds in front of their house, so I'm staying on guard. I think they're just being paranoid, but you've gotta make sure." (I don't think that's exactly what they say because I haven't been told that in awhile, but it's close)

they've always held shovels.

i believe the only tools they hold are the fishing rod, bug net, watering can, and shovel.
