What bug is this?

Are there more than two types of cicada?

I think I have 4 types of cicada right now. And a cicada shell. So yes! There's also an empty spot in my encyclopedia right between other cicadas so I would not be surprised if there were more :D

It would make sense for it to be a cicada nymph, yeah

I guess I've just seen other cicadas and assumed it was just more of the same. Now I'll actually have to pay attention to them lol

FYI, I Googled it, and I'd say for sure it's a Cicada, look:

I'm not sure what was posted yet, but that's a cicada larva before it emerges from the ground. So not its grubby stage. I know a thing or two about bugs because I have to find ways to control them before they destroy all my harvests every year. I hate them. Especially Japanese beetles. Those things are so annoying.

I agree, it does look like a cicada. I think it's kinda like the situation in the fossil exhibit? You know the very first room has some items that don't show until you start filling the museum, those items aren't labeled either (if I remember correctly).

As others have speculated, my guess is that it is a cicada. When I use to live near D.C. (in the US), there was this certain type of cicada that would spend 15 or so years underground and then come out of the ground for like a month or something. They would then leave their sticky shells everywhere, and they could be seen in large numbers flying about. Kind of scary now that I think about it, but thought it was pretty cool as a kid lol

edit: here is a link to an article about it, turns out this is one of the years they are expected to emerge (2020)! The website kind of makes them sound scary lmao but I promise they are harmless. My little kid self use to love to pick these friendly creatures up and parade them around my yard. they never hurt me, and I thought they were very cute.
