Next year will be my last year of college math (I will have finished all of my math credits for high school), and I assume that Pre-Cal is pretty much the same in the US everywhere. What's it like? I've heard it's pretty difficult and is more words than numbers.
Gah, wish I could say but my precalc was smashed into trigonometry and I think mostly trigonometry... sooo I don't know exactly. I can tell you about calculus though
i don't remember
it wasn't anything intense, but i wasn't in advanced placement classes or anything
i don't even know if i took it, tbh.
if you have trouble, speak up and let your math teacher know.
also, i know a guy from refugee who's a math teacher-to-be, if you ever need help on a tough problem. just saiyan.
I'm about 4 units in, and basically I've covered basic functions, properties of functions, asymptotes, inverses of functions, exponential growth, logarithmic functions, finding interest on several different kinds of financial stuff (annuities, loans, etc.), radians versus degrees, rational functions, radical functions, logistic functions, and a whole bunch more trig stuff
My teacher started the year off with trig ratios, and building on those by introducing formulas that allowed us to simplify trig equations. Be sure to go over the basics of trig ratios that you learned back in geometry: sin(theta) = 1/csc(theta), cos(theta) = 1/sec(theta), and tan(theta) = 1/cot(theta). All the stuff you learned using those three ratios (and their inverses) is going to come in handy somewhere down the line, so again, make sure you review those things.
You'll also go over graphing rational functions, vectors, as well as messing with equations applied to real-world scenarios. The last thing we did before the year's end was solving logarithmic and exponential equations, so I don't know if there's anything beyond that.
If you're really wired for numbers, the class shouldn't be that hard -- at least that's how it was for me.
A complete joke, just like Calculus will be if you have a good teacher. Pre-calc is just a continuation of algebra, while calc will actually be new material (with only a relatively basic knowledge of algebra and trig required). I'm gonna be honest with you, if you have a good instructor, you will ace any math class. Before taking calc at my university, I took pre-calc in 11th grade and was really anxious about diving back into math again. I ended up with a 97 in the class, mostly thanks to my awesome instructor.
