What are your thoughts on waterfalls?

Are the two sided waterfall entrances and the one tile wide waterfalls overused? Yes it is a staple to animal crossing towns but is it just me or does anyone else wish you could much more with water? What are some ideas you guys have that could benefit water creativity or post what you have done with waterfalls in your towns.

I'm guilty of having the entrance to my island surrounded by 2 waterfalls. I thought it was unique at first, but I think a LOT of people do that. I admit, it does look awfully neat.

I used to want to put a whole bunch of waterfalls all over my town because I thought they were pretty, but they are also just so loud. So I've limited the ones I do have.

I have the waterfall in the entrance area because it looks cool, even though its popular. The problem for the waterfall entrance, is how loud it is. And the problem is that waterfalls are going to clutter my whole island.

Does my two sided waterfall make me happy? Yes.

I don’t think it matters what others are doing as long as I’m having fun and enjoying my town. But that’s just my play style - I understand some people like to have original ideas which is also fun!

In my mind, it’s not a waterfall. It’s a fountain or modern art piece!

When I’m making an actual waterfall I make sure they aren’t more than 3 tiles and I put one or two rock furniture items in the water on a 1 tile land piece.

Eh I don't really mind it. I noticed it was starting to become really overused so I opted out of it, but in general things get popular because people like them. I don't particularly care how cliche aspects of people's island may be because at the end of the day we're just doing what makes us happy, right? :)

I love the sound the waterfalls make, so I can't blame anybody for using a bunch of them. I tried not to abuse them in my town layout because, I've got a friend who went CRAZY with the waterfalls and it was a little much.

I love the waterfalls!
Right now I have like 17 of them, in 3 clusters.
Here's the map just to see;

But as since my island is sort based around waterfalls, I am planning to have waterfalls used someway at the entrance. Not sure how exactly yet.

So, I confess I'm kind of addicted to waterfalls. I don't have one in my entrance, but I have several of them around town and am always looking to add more because I like them (especially multi-tiered ones). Here are some of the ones I've made so far.

Haven't looked at a lot of other people's towns or videos or anything so I haven't really seen a ton of intense waterfall use myself, but I guess it's a matter of how much you can stand the noise, lol. It's cool to see creative artistry with waterfalls, but it's also refreshing to see a well-designed town with minimal terraforming and normal untouched waterfalls.

I remember seeing a Reddit post of someone's Pokemon-themed island and for the dramatic entrance to their water-type gym they just had long waterfall walls on either side of the path leading into the area. I thought that was cool for his purposes, but if I started seeing that everywhere I think I'd feel a little sick of it. Some people want to do the trendy thing, others prefer to let their own island and imagination inspire them. I'm trying to do the latter.

Currently my most creative waterfall use is just small 1-unit waterfalls creating a 2-unit moat around an incline I have to an isolated clifftop. The idea is villagers can't get in there.

My waterfall grotto is the one part of my town I'm really and truly happy with, lol.

Love them, it's a good way to make an empty area look nice. I definitely wouldn't go crazy with them but they're nice to have here and there. :)

I'm making the lower left half of my island more of an archipelago. The upper right will have a valley where waterfalls are more present.

Definitely waterfalls can be overused, but I love them. I just personally don't like big and wide waterfalls because then the sound gets excessively loud.

I like the waterfalls even though they ARE loud. I have one near my house and I had to move it a bit because the noise was getting somewhat irritating, but other than that... they're nice. And they sure look good.

I added to the waterfall near my house, but I haven't done a ton of them. Yes, they're lovely, but they also eat up real estate since I have to make them join a river or pond. I'm not a fan of the waterfall ending in nothing.
