sorry for bumping the thread but tbh i cant understand why people are so against duping. i just legitimately cannot understand how people can get angry at someone else doing something that they personally do not agree with.
if someone wants to dupe, fine by me. i'm not them, their game isnt mine, and it's not like i can stop them, and i think that's the most logical mentality on people who dupe. it's not your town, your items, your bells, etc, so why should it really matter if they dupe or not?
ive heard the argument of it ruining the game or something like that, but i really cant see how duping items or bells or whatever is really "ruining" the game. if anything, wouldnt it make the game technically better if you've got infinite money, all the items you want, etc? acnl is a life simulation, most people obviously dont have such perfect lives that really i cant see how it'd ruin a game like acnl to dupe.
i've personally never duped anything although i'm planning to buy a powersave so i can become a literal god in fire emblem awakening and pokemon x (i dont play online with those games tho) but i might eventually dupe in acnl if i ever get extremely bored or desperate. but to me it just doesnt make sense how some people can be against something that's pretty much harmless.
i also dont understand people who are against timetravelling, though, so maybe it's just me being dumb because if someone is doing something relatively harmless that doesnt affect anyone else i dont get why people will be against it.
tldr tbt user amaiitenshii doesnt understand the logic behind being against duping or tt-ing
I'm not against it but I can offer you a few different POVs if you're interested:
1) It makes the game "too easy" and, in turn, makes it boring. Part of Animal Crossing's charm is working hard day by day (TTing or normal time) to build your town in your image. Having everything at your disposal can be great, but taking out the challenge can often leave people feeling unfulfilled. A big part of the game is the challenge it presents, and taking it away is like taking all the vitamins and leaving empty calories.
It depends on the kind of person you are. For some people it's more enjoyable to eradicate the challenge. It's a personal preference in the end, but most people against it tend to appreciate that challenge and value the hard work that goes into creating towns.
2) It affects the economy and the value of items. I mentioned this a little in my previous post, but basically if you're duping and profiting, it's generally frowned upon. I actually am against profiting off duping, but that's the only aspect I dislike. Many people use it for charities and such, and making certain items available, which is amazing and I'm behind that. But there will always be people who believe certain items shouldn't be available, or that the worth is devalued because of more availability.
3) it goes against the spirit of the game. With the current value of villagers and the tiers and all that, many people already dislike cycling and the general trade of villagers because, honestly, it's kind of discomforting. Now I don't think like that but I can understand it. Well, using powersaves and the like to have villagers infinitely available is a notch on the same belt, so to speak. Once again, if you're profiting off this, it's bad juju. It it's for charity, awesome~ But once again, in terms of economy, the widespread availability of said animals can affect profit. So people both for the spirit of the game and the economy can find reasons to dislike this.
4) Some people are purists. Some people hate cycling and TTing because they enjoy their game in its purest form, as nature intended. That's fine. But inevitably, there are going to be people who dislike the idea of anything but. Unfortunately that's how they see it and there's not much you can do aside from accept their opinion and move on.
5) Some people are worried about data corruption. Explains itself.
All in all, once again, I'm not against it unless it's for-profit. But those who are have their reasons, some which I'm sure I didn't mention here, and well we just gotta respect it. Everyone has a right to their opinion, after all. Hopefully maybe I offered a little insight~ Even things that you think of as good and harmless can cause some waves for others.
