I'm curious on what everyone looks for in their perfect town map, such as building placement, river, fruit, ect.

I'm really picky about my perfect map. No pears or oranges, no square grass, no pond in front of the train station, retail must be near the dock, town hall must be at the top of the map, must have a southern waterfall, the river must divide the town in somewhat even halves, no west-facing beach, a private beach is desired... Yeah, picky. Took me hours to find mine. Good thing villagers aren't a big deal since they're easy to shoo and switch.

Or do most people choose what they get in the first array Rover presents? :P

I didn't know we could pick so Retail is all the way in the back and my river runs vertically. I'm not pleased by it but I'm like OMG I HATE IT either. I've gotten too far for me to want to reset it.

  • Ocean on the right side, towns always feel bigger to me.
  • Preferably one pond, sometimes two is okay.
  • A river that I can put symmetrical bridges on.
  • Every icon on the map (such as the campsite, buildings, houses, etc) must have a decent amount of space around them and not be cluttered or too close together.
  • Small, private beach.
  • I only choose town maps that either have a river in a symmetrical U formation with the town plaza in the center, or a river that is curves like a snake and tucked on one side of the map.

I always need a curvy river. I hate straight rivers. I used to want a lot of ponds, but I realized that I wouldn't have a lot of space for houses and PWPs. I also need Re-Tail to be close to the dock, but in my current map that isn't the case. Not too big of a deal though.

Villagers close together.
Unfortunately, that didn't last too long. Maple moved by a waterfall and Hippeux moved near the train station. :/

For me I wanted a river that ran through town with a south facing waterfall (so I could see it) I wanted the town tree to be kind of secluded from everything and in the middle (which it is in my town but middle west) I then wanted all my other main buildings to be neatly up top of the map anywhere as long as they were pretty much in the same line (so I could create another main street with the other buildings like police and brewsters etc). Townies I didn't really worry about since they come and go. I wanted a east and south beach and my native fruit to be either apples, cherries or peaches. I only wanted 1 pond but would have been happy with 2 or 3. I needed a secluded beach that you can only get to by swimming (I really don't like it when you have to run all the way around town to get to the other beach!)
I did want my train station to have a green roof, but I didn't get that... I did want my river to be shorter but I'm ok with how it is.

Straight river. I hate curvy windy ones because I can never plan out where to put my PWP's.
One pond because having infested ones sucks... in my opinion.
The villagers must not be all huddled in one spot. It feels lonely having one part of the town with nothing.
The town hall, re-tail and town tree must be separated at least.

I picked from the first set Rover gave me, but I wanted beach on the left with a small private beach and retail near the dock, both of which I got. Plus, I ended up with the town hall right above the event plaza, which I wasn't looking for but I really like

I didn't know you could change the map, so I got lumbered with the first one, which I hate :( But I don't want to reset because I've done so much on it already...

The only things I would really want in a town is 2 ponds (specifically the ones next to the town hall and re-tail) and a horizontal river. I'm not really picky, though, I can make anything work.

I wanted Re-Tail near the dock. That was it! Out of the first four, I actually picked the very first map and I couldn't have been given a better option now I've been playing for a while. I got lucky!

Lot of space for PWPs, re-tail at least on the bottom half of the map, good place to put my house, nice plaza placement.

- Windy, curvy river: There are only two map layouts that I really, really want: maps.png
1 is my favourite map... I restarted so many times for that layout... but there was always something that bugged me. Grass, too many ponds, only villagers I don't like, big pond in a bad place, ... So, after 3500 resets and a two week break from NL, I decided to just pick one of the first four maps -> I ended up getting map 2 :lemon: And even though it's not map 1 I really like that town because...
- triangle grass (every grass pattern is okay, but triangle grass is by far my favourite!)
- good plaza, town hall and retail placement, good place for my house (preferably near the docks)
- docks in the left corner

It's pretty much ideal in my current town^^ There also is enough space south of the plaza to put PWPs there, I already have a plan ;)
- only one pond, two are a okay as well

I started off with the requirements of a secluded area near the waterfall/river, Re-tail being in the center for easy access and villagers which I like. I found a town which was basically fits each of my criteria and was happy with it for a few days.

However after making a huge mistake in that town, I was left with no option but to reset the game. By then I had different requirements for my town. It was mainly a nice private beach with a deep cove (preferably), secluded spot for home with enough space for a garden as well as Re-tail being closed to the docks.

After like an hour of searching for a suitable town, I found one that I'm pretty satisfied with so hopefully I'll be able to maintain this. Will be playing this town through without using the TT function as it pretty much messed up my previous town.

I chose from the first set I was given, because I hate resetting new games I just got XP I personally love my town map <3 It's super cute~! The river starts from the lower left.. then gradually increases to the top right. I have a secluded island c: All of my buildings are in the same area for quicker access :D My villagers live on the lower/ second part of town. My house is located by the water fall(lower left corner). The hill that leads to the dock is in a straight line. Fruit and grass? I never really cared about those xD but I have circle grass, cherries and a blue town hall. I just accept whatever was given ^^ My characters face is cute too. I didn't know I'd get that face with the big eyes that looked like Cookies(from GC). I just answered truthfully. In conclusion.. I couldn't have asked for a better map! :D If I could change anything about my town it would be the rock and villager placement. Some villagers are aligned and others aren't D: Totally sloppy, lol.

The town tree fairly central and not next to cliffs or train lines, no more than three ponds but preferably one, no pond in front of the train station/entrance. When I was restarting for my current town I also wanted a waterfall that started near the beach cliffs (so I could have my house near a cliff and in front of a waterfall) and a south facing waterfall, but now I'm not so bothered.

I don't really mind what a map looks like as long as it has little to no ponds. Less ponds mean more space for PWPs. Even though I reset a few times to get a decent looking map, I'm not all that fussy when it comes to town layouts for some reason.
