What are tokens and how do i get them?

Well, how you see in the title... That's my doubt. I saw that some collectibles dont costs TBT's, cost tokens. But what are tokens? How do i get them?

Tokens were the currency for our Old School Animal Crossing Week event. The event has since concluded and it is no longer possible to obtain tokens. The Tortimer's Mementos Shop closes later today.

also, for future reference, all shop items that use a currency not tbt or seashells will be for and obtained by participating in some forum event. typically with the info about it found in the bulletin board, if not a special board made solely for the event
