What are the tiers of gifts?

I remember reading somewhere that giving gifts through letters to your villagers will have effect on your friendship level, and that the "better" the gift you gave, the more it contributed to your friendship level.

Is this true? And if it is, what are the tiers of gifts? :O

I'm not sure about what tiers they are but each villager has their own favorite color and style, which, if your present matches their preference, they'll be a lot happier when receiving it. They also appreciate furniture that are customised by Cyrus, and items from Gracie's store. I'm not sure about the latter though, to be honest.

he likes modern, orange items, and dislikes gorgeous items. so!
the best gifts will be modern AND orange items,
but he'll also be happy with modern non-orange items
or
orange and non-modern items!

any items that are not in the gorgeous category will work I believe! but his super favourites will be the modern and orange items!

Oh right I get it now; I thought it was basically just furniture was the best, clothes next, then fruit. |D

They also enjoy getting perfect fruit over regular fruit.

When they ask for fruit, give them perfect fruit and it brings their friendship level up higher.
When they ask for fish, give them rare ones (sharks, coelacanth, stringfish, etc.).
When they ask for bugs, also give them rare ones (beetles, scorpion, tarantula, etc.).

It works and it's a great way to get their pictures really quickly ^^
(I think they also like to get furniture that's been customized by Cyrus)
