While there are some things that are common sense, like not running through flowers or cutting down a tree, what are some expectations you have of others that visit your town?

Some people ask that visitors not talk to their villagers, I believe because it may cause the villager to want to move to the visitor?s town. Maybe you don?t want people to dig up any scars, pitfall, fossil, or otherwise. I?d love to hear what the etiquete is in other towns!

The reason they don't want players to talk to their villagers is actually because the villagers will talk about that random person for MONTHS. The dialogue comes up frequently, breaking immersion for some people, especially when their villagers mention a random person who only visited for a few minutes lol. My villagers still bring up my very first visitor ! Though, I don't mind if others talk to my animals.
I personally would never talk to anyone's dreamies, and only talk to characters they were going to move out eventually. :)

I don't think I have any rules that aren't obvious, in fact, I never even tell people I have "rules". :o For me, as long as you aren't stealing items, digging things up, or generally causing chaos, you're alright. I don't mind at all if people want to buy out shops, Re-Tail, or the campgrounds, and they don't have to ask me beforehand. I probably wouldn't mind if people took fruit either, but I've never had anyone try that. I also don't really follow anyone around, unless they have a very new account or no reviews.

I'm only defensive about my flower setups and random items on the ground, however, in the rare case where people ask me if they can have/buy some things, I've always said yes. :)

Since I let people break every rule I think I have, I guess my etiquette is, "Politely do whatever."

I don't care what anyone does to my town, as long as they DONT CUT TREES
And ruin flowers. And get rid of my bushes and stumps.

I think there are at least a couple unspoken rules that I can expect or want.
Here are some that come to mind:

- Picking up tools/usables is fine as long as you just put them back where they were. No running if you have bad luck as well with this.
- Use pleasant terminology when having multiple people over, especially if you do not know them very much. This also applies with the bulletin board.

My only rule is to leave the town exactly as is and do not take what’s not theirs, basic etiquette really. I also ask that they don’t hold shovels in my town, but any other tool/accessory is ok (incase they accidentally dig something up). They can run if they want but only on the paths. I don’t mind visitors speaking to villagers. In fact, I love opening up my town for signatures because I want the visitors to explore the town and meet all my cute townsfolk hehe. It’s also not really a rule, but I make it known before the trade that I don’t like talking in-game and I apologise in advance if I sound curt.

Here are the rules for my town as follows:
- Be polite- Don't harass other people, joking with others is fine though as long as it does not invlove very crude langauge or is just straight up insulting
- Don't run in flowers- I don't want them destroyed as it takes a while to regenerate them.
- Don't dig up flowers or bushes- I spend time putting them there don't destory them.
- Don't cut down trees- Common sense
- Don't talk to villagers in boxes (ready to move) unless you have my permission to do so- I might be trading the villager to someone else
- Don't take items- Don't take flowers, or other items on the ground without my persmisson. The items may be for someone else or they are for decor in my town. I am fine with people taking reguar fruit as long as they ask!

Even though there are a few rules, I am pretty lax and chill with others in my town.

I don't have many visitors. I'm mostly a solo player, but on the rare occasions when I do have people over for a trade or something my general expectation would be that they should leave the town as they found it. Don't take anything unless it's laid out for you. I prefer to do trades right at the train station, but if the person wants or needs to walk around my town, I prefer that they stick to the paths and don't run. Of course, that's just preventative so they don't accidentally kill the flowers or something, so I won't enforce it strictly as long as no damage is being done. If I don't know the person well, I will follow them and end the session if something were to happen. So far, nothing like that has happened, but I get nervous. It feels like a social situation to me, and I don't do well with those. I also won't talk much because I find the in game chat very clunky. Not trying to be rude, it just takes too long. I don't mind people talking to my villagers, though. It doesn't bother me if they talk to me about those people later. It's a change in dialog, at least.

No running outside of paths, no taking flowers, no shaking perfect trees (I have baskets of perfect fruits that I give instead)

Nothing else is an issue to me. Talking to villagers doesn't make them want to move out faster and I like it when they mention my friends so it's all cool to me!

I've had people over to get my gate count up/pull weeds/take hybrids. Those were one-off occasions mostly. I don't tend to play with others because after all day in a customer service job, I get tired of having to socialize, lol. But I think my only rule if I did play with others would be for them to ask before they made any changes to the town. Like, I'll let you have fruit, but please ask for it first.

For my Guest town I write the rules on the bulletin board.

No running and shaking fruit trees. All items at the train station and event plaza are free. Shop at all stores and have fun.

Also write if turnip price are high or retail has perfect fruit for premium.

At the train station I leave baskets of all types of perfect fruit. I prefer to harvest the perfect fruit trees.

I have basic rules like don't run and such but those won't really tell any interesting stories. What will tho is my no picking up items policy. You'd think that it's common sense but it's really not on amino. I've had two stealing stories, which wouldn't seem that bad, but considering I've had maybe 4 people visit my town, you can see why I don't really like having visitors. My first stealing (well not really in this case (?∀`) was with this boy around my age. I'm not sure how we met but I let him over to my town to sight-see. He decided to clean up without my permission and picked up some items I've had scattered around the village, most importantly to me a used fountain firework. I've had a *stupid* connection to this piece of junk, it's been around my town forever and I begged him (more like politely asked him to put down the firework) and he didn't and I was pretty upset. He was probably like "why is this stupid girl asking for trash?" and left. I was angry, but after a bit I knew that I was being really stupid wasting my energy on something I forgot to sell at retail in animal crossing when I was eleven, oops. The more recent story is when me and and someone I met on Amino decided to visit both of our towns because we needed signatures for our villagers. We started at her town and Things went smoothly until I was stupid and forgot how the path system worked and we spent five minutes trying to get me to the train station. Then we went to my town and she decided to take a little un-asked for tour. She went over and TOOK MY MUSHROOM CHILDREN!!!! I'm still salty about that (+_+) anyways after she took all the signatures down she went shopping without my permission again and I spent half of my brain cells tracking her down and stressing out thinking she was wrecking my little town. It took another 5 minutes trying to finding her and eventually she left. If someone visits another person's town, they should try and ask for permission to do something. Especially if they're a stranger. (This was really long, so sorry for anyone scrolling through and I owe you a thousand TBT if you actually read this (*^▽^*). So sorry!)

The only thing I need when I have visitors is to not get the items on the ground mixed up. I have a town to let people catalog stuff. All (literally all) the regular furniture sets and all the DLCs, all the musics and all the stationary etc. were placed on the ground for that. I used to let anyone in freely, but I stopped this 'cause no matter what I ask them for some people didn't respect it and they just picked up anything until their pocket is full, then dropped those items off at random places, which quite ate my time to reorganize for the next visitor. After repeating it enough times, I stopped this service.
If they want to have the item, I'm even fine with them stealing. I'm serious. So long as they tell me what they're gonna steal so I wouldn't need to waste my time to check what I need to reorder.
Honestly that's all I want for my visitors - to put it back WHERE IT WAS, or to tell me what they want to carry with them to their town.
Anything else is fine. They can't steal my villagers after all.

I've only got three: don't run through the flowers, don't mess with any of the plants, and don't steal. Being polite is usually a given, but that's more on my part; I like being nice to others, and that usually means they'll be nice to me in turn--i guess that rule would be "treat others how you want to be treated". Of course, I haven't actually had any problems as of yet; everyone's been really nice to me, and I'm very grateful :)

No running, when I play I basically plant flowers everywhere. Also no taking flowers or other things laying around unless it's for a trade. Also the most annoying thing is when they run away to shop or just look around when they were clearly not visiting for that. I might let friends I trust do that but when I get randoms over...just no.

The only rules I have are to not steal, and do not destroy my town. I don't mind if people run as long as they stay on path and don't run over flowers and I don't mind if they shop, talk to my villagers or tour my town as long as they don't take anything without permission. Now just because I let people tour my town doesn't mean I trust them fully if I don't know them so if they do tour my town, I will follow to make sure they don't take anything because for some reason people think that when you have things on the ground that they can pick it up without permission like I have clothes on the ground for people who dream of my town to wear and have had people pick them up without permission before.

I actually don't like people running in my towns. Only with Townie is it fine, but for my other towns, I feel as of my path placement (esp in Moriyo) throws people off. They aren't used to all the corners and straight aways in that town, being unfamiliar with it. So they don't know where the paths go or how they turn. Plus, I keep flowers close, if not on my paths sometimes. I take pride in my bajillion hybrids and I don't want them destroyed.

Also the obvious rules like don't pick up anything that wasn't part of the trade and ask me before you shake a tree. My towns are covered so when someone asks to shake a tree, I usually go over to where they are and erase the patterns around the tree so they can get all 3 of the fruits. With perfect trees, I harvest from a specific single tree to not kill my other trees.

I don't mind if they talk to my villagers. I'm almost always on top of them, so my dreamies aren't moving out. And if they do, I can force tag them into one of my other towns.

"Politely do whatever" sounds like a wonderful rule of thumb, and seems to be the consensus of the thread.

I always feel like I'm curt with the chat system as well, I should follow your example and let visitors know beforehand that I'm just clumsy with the stylus and keyboard :P

Gasp, asking others to write if perfect fruit is premium and the daily turnip price is such a great idea!

I don't mind the length of the post, I love reading about the experiences! I'm sorry to hear your special keepsake was taken away, it makes no sense that someone would take something if the owner asked for it back, regardless if it's "trash." It wasn't trash to you! For me, I love to wear the lemon pack on my face, so I imagine if someone were to take it and tell me I could just order another, I'd be more than upset (and likely send them home without saving, lol).

Also, I bet the signatures girl, you would have sent her home, but then there's that added pressure to let her do whatever since you've already got signatures from her time. Don't be intimidated by that!! Send them packing if they're disrespecting your work and give them a negative wifi rating. If you still feel indebted, maybe compensate with a pair of TBT bells, but don't let them save with your mushroom bebes in their inventory! Wish I knew how to make mushroom babies, I'd be happy to help you get some more ^^

Oh man, I respect you so much for having a whole cataloging town, that sounds like a tremendous amount of work. And I can only imagine having to reset it all the time just made it more of a chore than anything else. That butters my biscuits that kind, hard-working people have to close doors due to lack of consideration and respect.

Basic rules mostly, like no running, because they could literally destroy flowers doing this. A few other rules would be stick to the paths, no stealing, no chopping down trees and I guess another one would be always stay in sight so I know what they are doing. Of course, I'm not too worried about these, because if someone did ruin my town or something, I can always repair it, but I prefer if they don't. Also, if they do ruin my town, I'll be sure to delete them off the friends list. >.>

I'm a slight control freak, I suppose

If I could, I set a bunch of permissions as if it were Minecraft, lol. But I only expect that you ask before taking fruit, digging up items, or talking to villagers- and don't head to Main Street without a heads up. And try to stay on the paths when you run. :)

That's basically it. As long as you don't grief by town or bully my villagers, you're fine. I don't allow anyone in my town without a small background check anyway.
