What are gems for?

Sometimes when I hit rocks, I get a gem like a ruby or an emerald. Does anyone know if they have a use? I don't really know what to do with them, so I usually just sell it at Re-Tail. But I don't know, for some reason I feel like they're more just a quick buck. Like, can Cyrus use it to build something? That's my best guess. Thanks.

Most times I sold them for some extra bells, but Cyrus can customize different furniture pieces with the ore. It depends if the piece can be customized or not. Also if you get 3 pieces of gold Cyrus will customize gold furniture for you at like 10,000 bells or something?

Yes, certain series can be customized with ore, there's a list on nookpedia ^^

I would save those gems because sometimes they sell for a lot of bells. I haven't encountered this yet but sometimes once in a while you will get a Rock where if you hit it multiple times a lot of gems will come out of it.

The gem rocks were the special thing for the silver shovel only. I think they may have had a chance on a gold shovel but I have not gotten any of those special money rocks but gems with the golden shovel in the past 2 years. When you used the silver shovel every once in a while the money rock would turn into a rock that spits gems. I loved how all the different tool variants actually had something unique
Also what everyone says is true! You either sell them for DA MONEYS or you can let Cyrus customize them and MAKE THE CHICEST FURNITURE EVER! Its so pretty!!
