Well you can use them is various games to get nice rewards, and display them nicely as well.

You said it pal, not me.
But amiibo offer little in-game bonuses for games.
You can train em' up in Smash Bros, Unlock costumes in Mario Kart, Weapons and Rupees in Hyrule Warriors, etc. Splatoon came out and I think they have the best usability with that game, having you complete single player missions to unlock goodies.
But yeah, they're also seen as collectors items.
I have mine boxed up right now, but I'm gonna unbox em in a mega unboxing when I get the full set(Smash Bros.)
