I've felt super limited by my island. I feel like it's really unbalanced, and it's difficult for me to make decisions about where everything will go. So, I thought I would completely level my island and rebuild everything from the ground up. It's gonna take a while (plus a lot of bells) but I think it'll be worth it. Have any of you made this decision or have thought about it?

I’ve really been thinking about it lately, little things like my “neighborhood” not perfectly lining up are bugging me, but I really can’t do much with my current layout.

omg same. My little neighborhood has this diagonal slant and it's really bothering me lol

I did, but it's really a lot of work and ultimatily I had different problems that lead to me to just resetting. Now I feel more comfortable working specific areas into my layout, I think certain flaws help you stick to a certain layout and not overthink it too much. An imperfect neighborhood looks much more natural anyway, a perfect grid can easily look way too manifactured.

I feel you. Everyone's islands look and feels so wide but my island feels so TIGHT AND CRAMPED TO ME LOLL OMG. 😭

I completely destroyed my river and levelled a lot of my island. It's given me a lot of space to try new things, so I don't regret it.

I totally get that, personally I kinda like perfect ordered grids, but I think it's awesome that everyone has their personal preferences :)

I got lucky with my island layout and pretty much nothing has changed besides fixing some rivers to fit bridges, demoing a small cliff and adding a new river that cuts though my island for aesthetic. I think if it bothers you a lot, you should change it! They've given us so much freedom for layout in this game so you might as well use it! :)

Me rn

Me. I'll make it all flat, put all the houses somewhere, terraform, then put the houses back. It will take so many bells and so much time,,,,,,, but it's what I need so let's go 😔✊

Patience. Enjoying the journey. Understanding that there isn't necessarily a "finished."

How I thought I was going to lay out my island in the beginning and what it looks like now are completely different.

And now we have bushes. And hedges. And our item collection grows. New DIYs.

Each stage the island is perfect. From day 1. Each adjustment perfect. Nothing permanent. Everything changing.

Of course we discover things we really like and they may last our whole island. Though I find it is a lot of fun to redo areas, expand, change, find new neighbors, make new areas, and do it again.

Have fun with your renovations!

I've levelled mine twice. I'm somewhat satisfied with the direction I'm currently going in, but we'll see.

I had the idea today to add fencing along every side of every main pathway. Then I realized I used a lot of my materials and didn’t feel like getting more today. So that’s where I’m at haha.

compared to other people with their islands thinking they're too small for them, i'm just overwhelmed by how much space i've got--
i feel you!! i hate my terrain and want to reset it but the thought of starting at square one with all the tutorials and stuff scares me. i've got too much progress and don't want it gone :c

Your game, your choices. Don't feel bothered by it, just do it if you want to.

A lot of people think terraforming tools are so amazing, and don't get me wrong, they are really amazing. It's just that many people fail to realize that the map is not much bigger than New Leaf's. The area you can modify is only 5 by 4 acres full acres, plus a little extra bordering those acres.

New Horizons' map is still quite a bit larger than New Leaf's map, but we're still pretty limited. People going in right away with minimal planning and thought are often those who end up resetting to actually think it through with their map.

I'm currently terraforming my map and while it's a time consuming, internal kerfuffle, it's piece by piece, block by block molding into something I can be proud of.

I am really into terraformed maps in general, so kudos to all of y'all who go big! I love the little intricate details and the random, yet not-so-random map designs people have come up with. While I do appreciate the spread out towns, I also love the condensed, filled-to-the-brink ones as well, as long as it's cohesive.
