Welcome to The Bell Tree World Championship!

Start your engines, refill your ink tanks, and put on your boxing gloves - The Bell Tree World Championship has begun! During this two-week gaming spectacular, that runs from Saturday May 8th 2021 to Sunday May 23rd 2021, you will be divided into four teams where you will work together to earn points for the chance to win exciting forum perks, forum bells, and TBT’s next most coveted collectible: The Super Star Trophy! You will earn points through participating and spectating in game sessions, creating artwork or poems in support of your team, and sporting an avatar and signature in your team colours.

⭐ Games ⭐

What games are on offer?
We are hosting friendly and competitive matches across a number of exciting online multiplayer Nintendo Switch games: Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Splatoon 2, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You will find all of the game threads in the Games Lobby.

What is the difference between friendly and competitive sessions?
  • In a friendly session you will only receive points for participating. The person who comes in first place will receive the same amount of points as the person who comes in last place. Game hosts will not be keeping score.
  • In a competitive session you will receive points based on how well you performed in addition to receiving a base amount of points simply for participating. The person who comes in first place will receive more points that the person who comes in last place, however everyone who participates will still walk away with something. Game hosts will be keeping score in competitive sessions.

⭐ Teams ⭐

Team Assignments
If you opted-in to this event before May 8th 2021 you will have already been randomly assigned to one of four teams: the Red Team, the Purple Team, the Blue Team, or the Green Team. Your team assignment will be listed in the postbit to the left of your post on desktop and on top of your post on mobile. Please note that it can take up to an hour after logging in for your team assignment to be displayed. In the meantime check the About Me section in your profile to find out your assignment.

If you have not yet opted-in to this event it is not too late to do so! To sign-up to participate in The Bell Tree World Championship please go to your Preferences and set the TBT World Championship field to "Opted In" and then press Save. All accounts that have opted-in will periodically be assigned to a team.

Please note that if you are not yet assigned to a team then you cannot sign-up to any of the gaming sessions. Please do not make placeholder posts; game hosts will ignore these.

Team Structure
For the next two weeks consider your team your TBT family. You might not get along with everyone in your team, but either you win together or you don't win at all! Each team has their own board where they will be able to communicate with their fellow teammates and their team captains:

Each team is led by two team captains. The Red Team is led by @dizzy bone and @Justin; the Purple Team is led by @LaBelleFleur and @Mairmalade; the Blue Team is led by @Kaiaa and @pandapples; and the Green Team is led by @Jeremy and @Vrisnem. Your team captains are your main point of contact for this event. They will answer your questions, cheer you on, and are responsible for distributing points to their team's members.

N.B. Please note that if your team banner is not currently displayed on your profile you will not have access to your team board yet. Check back in an hour!

How Will Points Be Distributed?
You will be able to claim your points by posting in your team board's Points Redemption Station thread. Follow the instructions outlined in this thread in order to redeem your points. Points will then be distributed by your team captains. Point distribution is a manual process which means we need to adjust each user's points one at a time. While the team captains will be working together to try and stay on top of point distribution you might find that there is some delay in points being added to your total. Points cannot be spent, so please be patient with your team captains if it takes some time to receive them.

🛑 Please do not message game hosts asking about your points unless they are also your team captain. Game hosts are only responsible for their own team's point distribution and will be unable to help you. If there is a significant delay in points going out please tag @Vrisnem in one of your team's pinned threads and they will liaise with your team captains.

⭐ Scoreboard ⭐

In order to track your team's progress you can check out the scoreboard displayed at the top of the board. This will be updated automatically as team captain's distribute member points.

chrome_2021-05-09_01-16-54.png

Please note that due to team captains needing to manually distribute points to their team that this scoreboard may update quickly for some teams and slower for others. For example, the Red Team may receive points more promptly than the Green Team depending on the team captains availability. This will have no impact on the final results. The scoreboard will continue to be updated after the event ends as team captains finish processing all of the points redemption requests.

⭐ Prizes ⭐

We have four categories of prizes for this event: Team Placement Awards, MVP Awards, Tournament Awards, and Participation Awards.

Team Placement Awards 🏆
The Team Awards will be awarded to every member of the team who actively participated in the event. We will classify active participation as earning more than 50 points for your team. First, second, third, and fourth place will be determined based on how many points each team accumulates throughout the event.

⭐ Before You Go... ⭐

While you navigate through the next two weeks please remember that this is just a game. We expect all participants to show a basic level of respect to their opponents, their teammates, their team captains, and the game hosts. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. This behaviour ruins the experience for everyone else present in the game session and if we see it happening we will remove players from the event.

Good luck, have fun, and play nice! 🏁

Hey everyone, if you recently opted in and need to be assigned a team, feel free to post here.

Once you've been assigned a team, it will be shown on your profile under the About page. You should then automatically receive a team banner near your name and access to your team's private board within one hour of your next activity on the forum. If this isn't working for you, please let us know here. Thanks!

I hope it is okay I opted in just in case I have a chance to do a friendly event or two…and I really want that participation patch!

So about the twitch thing

I don't have an account and I've never used it, is it free to sign up, watch and chat? Or does signing up require like it being linked to a credit card/paypal?

The app is free to download and use, you don't need to provide any payment information, and there are no ads. :)

Oh sweet thanks, if I had to provide payment info I wouldn't be able to use it to watch tournaments

The livestreams are broadcasted on https://www.twitch.tv/thebelltree, however you do need to actively chat in our Discord server while the livestream is on-going if you wish to claim points for spectating. :)

Quick question: will all spectated games be announced on the discord server as well or is it up to the viewers to keep an eye of the Twitch channel for when they go live?

We'll mention it, but we won't be pinging people! It's up to you to (a) keep track of event threads, (b) to keep the servers unmuted, or (c) follow the Twitch channel.

Personally I'll be doing a sweep of all the game threads every morning to see what is happening and I'd recommend others do the same! Things might change with little notice so it's good to keep up-to-date.

Yay! I just signed in! I am happy to find a nice competition of games that I really enjoy!

Small announcement: we split the Games Lobby board into this board called Neutral Territory. Games Lobby will now be only for the game event threads. Feel free to use Neutral Territory to make your own threads or for any general discussion about the event.
