Lately I've been getting bored of ACNL because I do the same things over and over again, it's gotten pretty repetitive. I want to get back into it again though, so what's your method of getting back into the game?
I restart my game pretty frequently! Granted, I usually save all of my items on another town first so I don't ever REALLY have to start over from scratch.
I just got back into it after having a break lasting just over a month. I had got to a place where I had unlocked and done almost everything. Now I'm back into it and I've got new fish/bigs to collect due to the change of season, new items available to help me complete my catalogue and I'm having a bit of a change up with my villagers. I do find changing the faces in your town makes a big difference. Somebody new to get to know/get their picture and have new dialogue. Even same personalities give you some subtle differences in conversation I've found
I've noticed that too. I have two Snooty cats in my town -- Purrl and Ankha -- and while they obviously say the same things often, Purrl seems to enjoy gossiping a lot more than Ankha. xD She also seems slightly more aggressive. It's fun noting the differences in all the villagers.
I had a break for a year or two in both my towns. Life just got in the way. Now that I'm on bedrest waiting for surgery I'm able to fully immerse myself in AC:NL and loving it.
Strategies I've used to break the boredom when it comes creeping in, aside from the lengthy break, are :
- choosing a random task/achievement to master, such as diving to fill the encyclopedia, and reading up on the tips and tricks to succeed. That's how I found this forum, through my random googling of.. turnips? Idk now! But the most random comment or tip can spark fresh enthusiasm.
- setting a goal, which may or may not be related to in-game achievements. I personally decided to get over my discomfort with trading with strangers (whilst still being responsible), and have both travelled to other towns and had people to mine for trades both ways. As I already have 2 towns on 2 DSes, I don't need to trade or visit externally to complete the in-game stuff, but it sure adds another level to the gameplay.
- check out inspiring dreamcode towns. The first one I went to was one Luna recommended, the official Nintendo town which was just amazing! I'm not a typical gamer but even I was seriously impressed at the details and ideas showcased there, which was the point lol. I still have 2 pro patterns from there, Princess Peach and another princess char I didn't know from Super Mario.
- get involved with some of the player-run events, games, and challenges. I'm just starting to look into this myself as I didn't have the time or much interest back when I was playing originally. But I have many friends who played in large part for those social things that they created and participated in, whether they knew each other irl or just online. There are still things around, some on here as well as other sites.
- and lastly, consider buying another copy of the game. I did this with AC:WW, my first AC game. All up I had 4 cartridges, plus the one I bought my sister. SO much fun to be had experiencing all those "firsts" again, and being able to move chars back and forth. Admittedly that's harder now as in NL you can only move a char to a fresh game to be the new mayor. But still. It's a way of reinvigorating things without losing all progress in your original town.
I got bored of the game. I stopped playing for 6 months, I guess.. and started playing again just recently. The first thing I did was remove the PWPs and change the ordinance. Now, I'm replanting trees and getting rid of all the hybrids. I just want everything to look new. And I don't play as often now. I just play when I feel like it. I don't want to feel like I'm being forced to play the game. I want to enjoy it.
Hm, how about trying to change your town theme or dreamies if you have any? Or resetting? Trade your items? Redecorate rooms? Or create a new character to play? Just this time, don't play too often. It will really bore you to death. Try to come up with different tasks to do every time you play.
