Way to repopulate the islands plant population?

So like a year ago me and my buddy were messing around on my island and he chopped down all the trees. I managed to get the bananas back (it's been like a year so I forgot how) but they only grow on sand so it isn't ideal for beetle spawns

It's been a while since I last played, but I believe you can probably collect some of the fruit while participating in Club Tortimer tours and keep them in your pockets. Then when you get back to the main Club Tortimer island you can plant them with the tools Lloid loans out.

Also different trees spawn different beetles, so it would be to your benefit to have both banana trees on the beach and other fruit trees on the grass.
