Although I don't like him personally I can see the appeal. He is cute and his house does have sloppy furniture in it but I think the bandwagon effect is envolved

Pretty much any character that is considered cute is going to be popular.Also villagers that look like desserts tend to be popular since it's a really unique look.I would be surprised if a cute strawberry rhino wasn't popular.

I have Marshal but I didn't know nor did I care how popular he was when I got him.I actually didn't really care about him when I plot reseted for him,I just picked him because the game was forcing a smug on me and he was the best looking smug in my opinion.Though I really like him now because of his funny dialog and since he's a marshmallow squirrel he matches my town's theme.He's not the only smug I like now though,I like Graham too.I'm not that crazy for Merengue but she's cute and I can see why she's as popular as she is.

Personally I don't like these "why is is *insert villager name here* so popular!?" threads,no matter how popular a villager it's no surprise that there are also going to be plenty of people that don't like that villager.I'm personally not bothered by what villagers are popular even if it's a villager I hate,it's none of my business what villagers other people want.

Even I am starting to get sick of these kind of threads.

I will sort of defend Merengue. I don't think she's the best normal. I still say Nana, Bertha, and a few others are better than her. My opinion on Normals isn't that high.

That made me giggle.

I see two sides to the whole Marshal schpiel: one, people think he's adorable and unattainable, therefore want him more since he's seen as this holy grail of ACNL, and two, bandwagoning.

As for me, I never really wanted him. I thought he was alright looking, but nothing for people to lose their **** over and pay millions of bells for. I traded him for Francine when she was suddenly in boxes, and I planned on giving him to a friend who has been desperately wanting him for a long time. However, she recently told me she'd rather reset her town and hope to find him as a starter in the process, so I was stuck with him. I contemplated just selling him for bells when he asked to move even though my other dreamies aren't really expensive. He grew on me, though. The way his little tail bounces as he walks, his cute little facial expressions... he's going to be staying with my dreamies in my town.

With that said though, I do think he's extremely overrated.
