Nah, I haven't been on the island since, and I think I blocked her or did the thing where you don't meet them online again ^_^
Basically this. I've met some real creeps on the island (stranger danger kids..)
I don't want to believe this, but there were glitches that could wipe other people's save data in past games and I don't want to mess around with that.
I've heard about the worst people on the planet showing up on the island which is why I never go there. They would wear swastikas and SS uniforms and hold you hostage. Club Tortimer is expensive anyways. I doubt someone can hack your game let alone the 3DS so calm down. The island's not worth going to anymore anyways.

Wow, that is uhm.. really awful :S Yeah, the island isn't too profitable anymore regardless. I'd prefer solo island anyway. But its sad that this even happens. I love that people can get creative... but that is not exactly the kind of creativeness I think the developers wanted to inspire

To be honest, I only ever went to the island online to get the better shop items. The people are just disruptive if you're trying to make money over there. I'd just go alone/go with friends.

Wow. I don't think this is true, considering it's a DS game so it seems like it would be hard to hack into? But thanks for the warning! I've met some crazies on the island before, I wouldn't put it past some to at least try to hack peoples' games.
I don't think its as farfetched an idea as most of you think. All you'd have to do is find the details of the variables and coding from the other player and then have the ability to edit them, which, as long as your connection is present, is not impossible.
But to get to that stage would require some serious determination and Nintendo probably has enough safeguards to stop that from happening. Just saying though.

Considering how difficult Nintendo has made it to hack the 3DS, and the fact that we don't even have a way to hack items in (sure, the duplication glitch, but that's a glitch), I think it'd be much harder for them to wreck a town via the island.

I would have thought it would be impossible though as there is only one hacked TOWN that I know of, but that was closed (I think) by Nintendo, although rumors spread that it was just a glitched town. I would have thought it would be a lot easier to hack your town then corrupt data.

I have a question. If I was to encounter rude people who abuse the tour system and they demanded that I let them win a certain amount of games, couldn't I just threaten back that I would wait it out or just shut my 3DS off? Would that lead to any negative effects in my game?
Just flip the wifi switch and you'll both be disconnected with no ill effects.
I'd say always flip the wifi switch in general if someone tries to coerce you to do anything on the island. When people go along with them and they get away with it, it encourages them to do it more often.
As for the island hacker thing, it's unlikely. Certain elements in the Pok?mon community have been moving heaven and earth to find a way to hack mons in XY - even now the only confirmed way to get a hacked mon onto the game is to upload it from an older version. It's actually quite funny because they were getting close to being able to do something with packet injection, then Nintendo patched the game, teheheh. If Pokemon players can't do it, being a much larger fandom with more resources available, I doubt there's anyone out there skilled and determined enough to maliciously hack ACNL.

As much as I don't believe this whole idea of island hacking, it creeps the crap out of me. The island is a really weird concept for me and I don't go there much anymore. Last time I went there I was happy to do a tour with two nice girls who accidentally sat down before me (the girl was very young) and they went off without me. The connection died anyway. But yeah, the fact that some sick people or people willing to hold you hostage on a kid's game makes me feel weird inside. I don't know why people do things like that. Nothing awful has happened to me on there besides a few trolls, but this kind of stuff just makes me not want to go. Just to think people out there are going there with the possibility of scaring children is really horrible.

This is not a hack. You just need to wear a crown and go to the island. Then place the crown in the box and leave. Do it again and again, and soon your box is full of crowns/flowers/anything that you can wear.
And maybe these people just want to scare people? I've met a troll who insisted that flipping the wifi switch will break my 3DS. He just wanted me to stay there.
