Yes, it's me again, talking about maps.

The problem with maps is you can't really tell how much or how little room you have in town just by looking at a flat image of a map. A map where the river is cutting through town might actually be more spacious than a map where the river is taking up 1/4th of the map because one side of that river could be filled with 3 or 4 immovable rocks.

Solution: The next AC game should allow us to make our own maps from scratch, but that's not going to happen

Those who spend hours upon hours finding the perfect map aren't as high in numbers as those who just pick the first map right off the bat. So this is unlikely, plus isn't it more fun to work with what you have? That's always the artist's situation. Using the resources around them to the best that they can.

Of course. And there is no perfect map. But I'm just saying that looking at the map straight on can't really tell you how much or little room you have in your town.

And dont forget the native fruits.

I know right. Those doggone pears are ugly as sin

I don't know, I just like the randomness of it all. It's part of what makes the game fun for me. I've always kept the first map. Sure my towns probably suck because of that by others definition, but I like the challenge it gives me. Plus I'd probably burn myself out and never play an AC title again if I constantly reset to find the perfect map.

But that's just me. Yeah some rocks are in the way now, but I work around that. Maybe just maybe they could have Nook's home loans in the next title have other options, but they can only be done once a day. Like move a rock to a different location, because that's a lot of manpower realistically involved.

I think it would help if they showed rocks on the map. I'd really rather not have everything customisable; that gets real tiring quickly imo.

I like the randomness style more because it fits well with the whole aesthetic as you speak to Rover moving to "somewhere".

When you have four or more ponds...it's a lot of rocks.
Then add all the "random" rocks that are randomly generated in addition to town hall, town tree, train station...

IT CAN BE A LOT OF ROCKS.

It's all fun to pick a random map, only to figure no there's only one really nice house for your mayor.

New Leaf maps are small. Very small. The smallest the Animal Crossing maps have ever been.

Give me the domain over this land and I will build it!

Oh I like the randomness, but sometimes it can get frustrating after a while. I guess I'm just projecting because before I found my current layout, I was resetting for 4 days and even still, I'm not sure about the layout I currently have. I think I just need a break from this game entirely

You want perfection. I understand that!

Once you've seen what other maps can be you have a better idea of what you want.

Welcome, HappyTails. You have entered the land of the AC Map Masters.

LOL Is the land of AC Map Masters a place of no return? Will I ever be seen again?

You have just entered the hall of AC Masters.

You are on your way to AC Utopia. Shangri-La. Bliss. Harmony.

You have just begun your battle of the maps. It is an arduous struggle between a rock and a hard river shape.

In time you will find peace and harmony. Usually this requires much resetting.

I was like you two years ago.
Just a simple mayor, carefree to the first four maps.
No grass preference, barely cared about fruit.
Then Twiggy - the Catalyst - A StreetPass Void - moved where I was going to place the yellow bench that very day.
I was a simple mayor who wanted a nice town.
It made me so mad - she could have moved ANYWHERE in the entire town - but she moved into that exact place.

That was when my journey began.

My time was along a summer journey.
Two summers ago.
Much resetting.
I learned of the rock placements.
I learned about town hall and Re-Tail styles.

It all became clear. Resetting wasn't easier or faster - actually yes, it was. Bad maps were quickly visible and easy to exit Rover's train questions. Better maps required a walk through.

Only then did I find an inner peace.
Now resetting isn't "fun" but it is a process.
A hopeful process.

And that is what I hope for you.

i wouldn't want to be able to customize everything on a map, but being able to see the rocks and being able to choose which native fruit you want would be rather useful to me, imo

Just seeing the native fruit after you go through the tunnel would save so much time.

It's obviously important to a lot of people.

Rover could ask - what's your favorite fruit?!
- Something juicy (pear)
- Something rosy (peach)
- Sweet yet tart! (Cherry)
- Reminds me of sunshine (orange)
- Something crisp (Apple)

And then Rover asks, 'What's your stance on rock and roll?'

A lot of rocks: Just roll with it
Quite a bit: It's awesome!
A few: It's ok...I guess?
None: My ears are bleeding...

I'm kidding...I'm kidding...put down the torches and pitchforks. Nintendo rarely disappoint though, so I'm sure they're going to have a bunch of goodies/ideas in store for the next game. Hopefully we get something within the next year or so and that AC phone app doesn't delay any official titles...

I do like the idea with the fruit though! I got lucky with my only town. First try and I got peaches like I did with AC for the GC. I don't think I would had reset if I didn't get them, but it would be a nice addition. I just think when you get to the point of being able to move around ponds, rocks, and ect you're playing an entirely different game...like Minecraft.

Things are bugging me about maps that never bothered me before (like grass shape. I never cared about that before suddenly it's a problem?) and I'm finding more negative things than positive and it's ridiculous to reset for 7 days and still not settle on a map. So I'm taking a break from this game. It's obviously i need one, because even when I do choose a map, i'm not excited to play. So I'll probably start playing again in September. This game is overwhelming me right now.

I'm fine with the maps being randomized. My only problems are that the maps are so small. For some reason, the handheld games always have such tiny maps, while console games have gigantic ones. For a game that allows you to custamize your town however you'd like with public work projects, you'd think they would give you a larger map to work with but for some reason they gave us a very small one.

I also don't understand why we need so many permanent rocks. I know we at least need a couple to catch bugs, and for the daily bell/gem rock, but it just seems excessive to have tons of permanent rocks all over town that half of which do nothing. I also don't get why we can't move them. It's not like they're gigantic boulders or something lol. We can move rocks in real life, so I think we should be able to move and get rid of rocks in this game. Maybe in the next game they'll allow us to roll the rocks where we want.

Seeing all the trouble people here have had choosing a map, I'm glad I'm not a map resetter. That said, I'd love to at least have the ability to choose the fruit - and maybe the grass - before choosing the map. Plus, If only the map wasn't so small... That's probably the heart of the issue people are having.

Or even better: I'd love the next game to have no permanence in map features, and nearly everything in the overworld can be changed. This is a perfectly fair request: If the game is designed to be played for years on the same map, why not gain the privilege to alter the map as you play it? But instead, rocks, which could have so much potential for decorating our town, are purely permanent obstacles to us.

Okay, made sure I would still be on topic if I comment on rocks. :D I have nine rocks in Novaria, but was such a rookie I didn't even know that I should complain about them or that they should bother me! So they never did! Gahaha!

My town of Elenrast has only four, thankfully. One bothers me, one is not a problem and the other two I incorporated as seats near my double hot springs. It's cool that our characters and villagers can sit on rocks now, am I right?

I don't know. I'm a sucker for rng shenanigans so I think it's more fun to pick from what you got. But I agree that showing where rocks are would save a lot of time.
