VR headset problem.

So, I just got a VR headset. It requires the Google Cardboard app. So, I went to the Google Play store and found the app. Then it said I didn't have the right Android version. I looked on the headset box, and it said I needed Android version 7. I looked in my phone and found out that I only have Android version 5. I checked and there are no software updates. I have no idea what to do now.
