Visiting your own dream town glitch? [RESOLVED. Was from a hack.]

Update: idk if you found my dream code here or on Tumblr or what but. To whoever ripped off my entire town, I’m flattered you thought that not playing and instead just copying my entire town as well as trying to steal my identity was worth the $40 you paid for this game

I haven't played in like a year so I updated my dream yesterday... afterwards I was bored so I searched for my town name for a dream and I managed to actually visit an old version of my dream!! But the weirdest part was that all of my houses were empty??

also my dream address hasn't changed, and it was during daytime... I'm pretty sure the last like 5 times I updated over a year ago I updated at sunset... so I have no clue what version I visited

has this happened to anyone else?

There is a town with the same town and player name as me, but not mine, did you use a different 3ds?

This happened to me, too! It was quite weird. lol But my town recently got a new dream address so I guess that's why.

Nope only have one 3ds and this is 100% my town; all my characters, villagers, layout, etc are the same

This happened to me as well! I think when one doesn't update their town for a while he or she is given a new dream address, but the old dream remains. My town was so different, but I got to see a bunch of old villagers!

If you're given a new dream address you can visit all the old ones! I was updating my DA on my profile on here and visited my old one. I was so inspired by everything and it really breathed a new life into my town as I got lots of fresh ideas from my old version of my town, and brought back some of the ideas I had in planning from like last year! Surprisingly, all my old villagers remember you as well! (rip in pieces bam aug 24 2013 to feb 17 2016)

Lot of people seem to think this is from getting a new dream address, however my dream address hasn't changed since I started acnl lol (checked after I visited too and nope still the same one)

My houses are also all empty (wallpaper/flooring still there though) and I've definitely never updated with empty houses ever..

Anyway, that's a really cool glitch! After I got another copy of ACNL I went to my old dream town, and I actually was shocked when I saw my old mayor... Not sure why. XD Have you updated your town recently to see if it's still there?

Damn I had no clue this was possible..... If someone really did do this then wow that is super creepy and kinda sad bc who is pathetic enough to attempt identity theft through acnl lol :/ I will prob check to see if the towns still there tonight and if it is I'll check if the dream code is the same as mine

Wow. You're popular :/ Who would do this? The whole point of AC is to design a town, where is the fun in playing in someone else's, like, visiting dream towns is great, but playing in it every single day?

I guess someone really liked your town... It's not like that person is making money off of your town, so I don't know if you can really call it stealing your intellectual property. It's really just a waste of money for that person since that person could just visit your DA instead of spending money on a copy and going through the effort to hack just to get the exact same thing.

Has been noted before, but it doesn't seem to be overly common place.

I think that your houses were empty suggests that it might well have been copied - really sorry to hear of it because it is stealing.
However what they have is a copy, a shadow, you have your town and can alter it, give your villagers new greetings etc. It is still your unique town.
Edit: what I'm trying to say is take heart, don't let them 'win'. Its a horrible thing to have done to your hard work, but your town is still uniquely yours.
At least I don't think it copies the inventory or the house contents, a little comfort.

Care is also needed when visiting dream towns that have been hacked - and its not always possible to know that a town has been before you go.
Most are OK, but its very much the best option to not do anything in a hacked dream town that you can't do in a normal dream town.

Why? I've never heard of anyone's game crashing or anything like that from a hacked dream town.

At worst your character can get stuck but the game saves before you visit anyway.
