visiting island via dodo code?

I haven't played the game yet but I keep hearing people say that you can't do certain things when visiting on a dodo code. But I have also heard people have visited islands a different way and it allows them to make changes to the island (like cutting down trees) is this true? Like should I be weary of letting people on my island?

essentially, if you visit an island and you're not best friends with the person (you can add them as a best friend in the same way as new leaf) then you won't be allowed to use an axe or shovel. however you will still be allowed to do anything else like picking up items from the ground or shaking trees etc. im pretty sure you can still trample flowers also? lol
