Villagers wearing customs from Able's

I’m still not totally clear on how this works - if it doesn’t go in their inventory but can carry over to a new island, is there some kind of expiration date on it?

Yeah it isn't clear at all.

Also, complaining to Isabelle didn't remove the clothes? I have Pekoe who's leaving tomorrow and I want her to stop using my pattern so if someone wants her she'll be as clear as new, but she's still wearing my pattern.. I don't want to erase my pattern because it is "cosplay-like" from a tv show that's popular where I am from, so nothing offensive, but I know it's an obscure reference so I would like to remove it.

I also tried to put a different pro pattern over, and it doesn't change anything.
