I'm trying to breed flowers and I've noticed a few of my villagers watering them. Do i still need to water the ones my villagers have watered so that i get hybrid flowers or no? Also how do i tell a hybrid yellow mum from a normal one?

Your villagers watering flowers still counts. Rain counts as well. As long as the flower is sparkling, then it has been watered for the day. But since the villagers water randomly, it's easiest to just get into the habit of doing all the watering yourself.

I'm guessing you're trying to grow Green Mums? There's no visual difference between a "Seed/Normal" Yellow Mum and a "Hybrid" Yellow Mum. The difference lies in their genes. That's why it's important to learn how to breed flowers carefully and to separate them so that you don't get them mixed up.

Let me know if you have any other questions about breeding hybrids! There's a lot of incorrect information out there, so it's easy to make mistakes that will make it much harder or impossible to get the hybrids you want. Green Mums are one of the harder hybrids to breed for.

Oh thank you so much ^-^ and yes i am trying for green mums. I have a lot of mum pairs and one red and yellow pair has grown another yellow mum. I wasn't sure if i could be certain if that one is a hybrid or not by like digging it up or something. I did read that sometimes flowers have to have their DNA "refreshed" by getting rid of old pairs and planting new ones bought from the Nook shop or Leif. Is that true?

Yeah, there's no visual way to tell the difference between a Seed/Normal Yellow Mum and a "Hybrid" Yellow Mum that was bred from a Red and Yellow pair. It's up to you to keep them separate.

Once you've started breeding for a specific flower, you shouldn't replace flowers unless something has gone wrong and you need to start over. But what you should do is always start your breeding from scratch by buying seeds from Nook's Cranny or Leif. For example, when breeding for Green Mums, don't just grab any random Red/Yellow Mums on your island or from someone else's island. It's best to always just buy seeds and use those. For certain easier hybrids, this is less important, but for more difficult ones like Green Mums, it's basically necessary.

The reason is the same as to how you can't tell the difference between Seed and "Hybrid" Yellow Mums. Most flowers of a single color have multiple genotypes, some of which won't work well for breeding. Seed Flowers have the same genotype for any given flower, so using them guarantees that you'll succeed as long as you use the proper layouts and don't accidentally mix them up.
