Villagers using each other's catchphrases...

so... between my hubby and i, we've been amusing ourselves with the catchphrases... dum bass(normally no space), mentalmigit(not enough space), citidiot(we're rural) and more than would probably get me in trouble for saying... anyhow, it gets really funny when hubby's rodney says "i hope everything is treating you well dum bass" when i talk to him on a visit etc... or one of them tries to use as many as possible in one convo, making it sooo wrong but so hilarious.

I remember giving one to one of my villagers and that very same day a different one said it and I was confused.. it spreads as fast as covid

This is why I don't give villagers any unique catchphrases I just leave them be as this feature is super annoying since I don't like when villagers change their catchphrases. They spread like super fast its almost like the flu happened in a tight room!

I just ask Isabelle to make those villagers that copy them to reset their catch phrases (Did this with drfit when he wanted a catch phase and 2 other villagers started saying brah (which was his old catchphrase)

I agree because it's soooo annoying. I try to give them unique phrases catered to their character and personality but then they just spread it to everyone and it looks stupid. I hate it so much lol. I mean, their preset phrase doesn't spread so why does their catch phrase? Same with the nickname stuff - I let one person call me "spud" now they're all doing it lmao :(

I think it's mildly annoying as well because I try to set catchphrases based on the villager's personality type / species. For instance, I changed Muffy's catchphrase to 'cupcake' and Dom has picked it up... Nicknames spreading is ok though as I find the nicknames to be quite adorable :)

I wish that they all had their own unique catchphrase. I find myself thinking about catchphrases that would match the villager, but would also match others if it did spread. I'm using generic catchphrases like "cupcake" or "lovie" to try and prevent the spread from happening. Wish I didn't have to do that. :(

This is why I havnt changed anyones catchphrase yet. Though they have asked if I wanted them to change i cant even count how many times.

Generally though, their catchphrases are adorable. The only one that's currently bothering me is Raddle.

Aaach~

(It always feels like hes either stifling a sneeze, or about to say something else... But I can live with it.)

I think you can reset their catchphrase if you talk to isabelle, i think the preset catchphrases are already cute alone! just my opinion!

i also made bunnie’s catchphrase ‘coochie’ and now im scared others will begin to use it oh... no...

Does anyone else wish the villagers would just keep their catchphrase (or the one you gave them) instead of ultimately all saying the same catchphrase by the end of the day?

I love the game! Don't get me wrong! But, having played across the Animal Crossing series, this has always been a little pet peeve of mine when I try to think of good catchphrases for each character to make them unique. Oh well!
Apparently most people are annoyed by it from the posts I've seen about this topic before, but I think it's cute. I like seeing the conversations, but it's also cute when it happens and I wasn't around to witness it. For me, it increases immersion, because it's like "Oh, yes, my villagers talk to each other and like each other and are friends," like when you go to someone's house and another villager is visiting. I also try to give custom catchphrases that are targeted to the villager in question's species or personality, so I think it's hilarious when suddenly a sheep or frog is yelling KA-KAW! at me (which is what I gave Celia most recently as her catchphrase. She also greats me with MURICA! because I love the ridiculousness of making her super jingoistic/patriotic when she's a sweet little fluff ball; previously she said "peep peep" and "peep peep cheerio," still bird-themed but more suited to a normal villager).
