If I have 9 villagers currently, when will my villagers start to move out? In other words, can someone please explain the moving seasons/patterns?

Okay. Once a villagers moves in, you have a three day grace period where no one is thinking about moving (unless you have 10). When the grace period ends, one of your villagers will ping you and if no one does, talk to your villagers. One of them for sure will tell you who's thinking about moving. A villager has 5 days to move out and throughout the days, you can ask them to stay if you do wish. I hope this makes sens!

Going along with what irlghost is saying, whenever you have less than 8 or 8 villagers, people will want to move in. If you have 8 villagers, if you don't fill your 9th spot, someone random will move into town. If you have 9 or more, villagers will want to move out.

So if I have 10 villagers (which I don't currently), villagers will move out the same as if I have 9 villagers? Also, what is the moving rate once you hit 9-10 villagers? (like is it once every month or something?)

I have 10 villagers and sometimes the grace period lasts between 1-3 days. When you reach the max, a villager will really want to move out so it can make room. So it's not exactly the same as if you had 9 villagers.

Less than 8 villagers: Nobody will want to move. You can never go below 8. A 9th will eventually move in.

9-10 villagers: You can only get a 10th via campsite, streetpass, void, or adopting from another town. If you're saving a spot for a 10th villager, ensure you turn your streetpass off and ensure visitors clear their voids before visiting your town.

Villagers can and will ping to move out. Usually they won't ping until a few days after the 9th/10th has plotted and moved in. You can spot the mover by simply speaking too all of your villagers and responding to any pings you hear.

Villagers will move out 5 days from the day they're set as the mover. Even if they don't ping you on that day, they're still set to move. So you'll want to ensure you talk to all your villagers and get the rumor dialogues~

Keeping on top of it is key. Don't ignore your animals. If you're feeling paranoid, use a new character to "scout" your animals' homes and ensure nobody is boxed. If you see someone boxed, quit the game, TT back a day, and ping the mover. So long as you don't load a day on your mayor, the game will act as if it was never played on that date, thus sparing you from being "locked in" on a mover.

It's a good backup tactic if you haven't been pinged in awhile and you're getting worried.

Have fun and best of luck~

Ok.. I think I get it now. So if I get one of my dreamies to make my town have 10 villagers, someone will move SOON so I will have room for more dreamies. *if I have the wrong idea, I'm just a derp... sorry :P*

It's really random. Even at 10 villagers I've had times where animals didn't wanna move out for a week. For the most part though, at 10, villagers will normally want to move around 1-4 days later on average~ And yeah, I've noticed the moveouts are just a bit slower when you hit 9. An extra day or two at times.

@OP There really is no set time or season to it. Sometimes you'll get a lot of pings in a month, and sometimes you may find you don't get a lot at all. It's all purely RNG and the only real "pattern" you have to go by is

1) If you deny a villager's move request, the game needs a day to "process" this. After that day passes, you can get a mover again and
2) Animals will always move 5 days from the date they are first able to ping you about moving

It's difficult at first but once you get into the mindset, it's easy to predict the danger zones. As I said before, don't be afraid to use a new character to scout for boxed villagers if you're paranoid~ But so long as you talk to your villagers a lot and such, chances are you'll get a rumor or a ping without even really trying~

May I just say that @serif's lil guide is amazing and with so much detail. Like I didn't know a lot of these things. Thank you :)

There are tons of guides within the site you can look into as well~ So don't be afraid to find all of the resources you can. In the end it all just comes down to learning the game's mechanics and developing your own rhythm and groove~

Best of luck achieving your dreamies~

Sorry for being a big noob, but what is the void and how do you get a villager from it/clear your void? >o<

The void is where villagers go when they're not adopted by another town. To clear it, you visit a town with 10 villagers via train station. Sometimes I've had it happen where a void is not cleared though so it's not a perfect 100% method but it does help. Especially if a person doesn't want your unwanted villager because they're trying to get their dreamies too. You won't have to do this though if you just had a villager be adopted by another town.

I was wondering the same thing. This is really helpful information. I really wish in future animal crossing games that you can choose where villagers will move into. Like having predetermined spots where they can go. That way I know that nothing bad will happen to my pathways and flowers if someone moves in. Even if I would want a certain character to not leave I'll know that if they do no one will come and move in at a bad spot.
