Villagers moving?

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere, I cannot seem to find it! So I have read a lot about people trading/giving away villagers, etc, and I understand the principle I just have a few questions! How do you get villagers to move out, and how do you keep them from moving out? I would like to eventually have a koala-only town LOL, I'm just not exactly sure on how the whole thing works. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this shouldnt be posted here!
