villagers leave without your consent or can be stolen?

Being someone who has stolen a lot of villagers, I can confirm the second part is true.

W- how and whats the process?
Like did those villagers move in to your place unexpectedly without asking their previous owners or did they ask ?

Villagers don't move out on their own in this game.
If you miss their thought bubble about asking to move out, they still will not move out, no matter how long you ignore them.
Villagers can't be stolen.

I can't answer the first question as I've only had one villager leave and she asked if she could. I'm really curious about the "stealing villagers" thing too. I've had plenty of people visit and only be on my island for like 2 minutes and none of my villagers be anywhere near my visitor or me for my villager the next day to be like "so Blanky from Blankyland visited. Blankyland is really far away. I want to go to Blankyland someday." If the villagers already hint at maybe leaving one day I don't know if talking really affects anything unless the villager is already in boxes. I could be wrong though. We need someone else who has actual proof that a visitor talking to a villager can cause that villager to leave. However, with that said I agree with cheezu. I don't see how someone could "steal" a villager. I could see a visitor talking to a villager maybe increasing that villagers chances of asking to move out, but not getting the villager to leave without asking first.
So if someone visits and DOESN'T talk to your villagers, they still mention that person, forever?

I can't ever have a visitor then.
I don't like villagers talking about other players.

i wouldn't necessarily say forever, but villagers will make remarks like, for example "your friend X was over the other day, no? and they came from Y island, that's pretty far away!" or if you haven't met the person in a while they'll also ask if they'll ever come over to visit again. but yeah, they do that, even when nobody talks to them afaik.

I've gotten over 40 or so pings to TT villagers out of my island, every time there has been a bubble over their head and every time there is only 2 options, to stay or not to stay. The top option is always to stay and the bottom to leave. Residents won't move out on their own, even if you don't talk to them (I've tried this with a villager I didn't talk to at all beyond the move in one dialogue).

I suppose someone could hypothetically "steal" you villager if you have one in boxes, but if it's from the void, it happens with the current glitch. Other players can't even recruit villagers in your campsite, it's extremely difficult for someone else to steal your villager unless someone for some reason is hijacking your villager trade.

I'm sorry but it's BS about stealing villagers - don't believe everything you read.
If Splinter has stolen lots of villagers as he claims then please show some proof or a walkthrough of how that's done or I won't buy it.

You can get void villagers (I suppose you could get good ones if you get lucky) and that's about it.

Also, as others have said the - don't leave option - is always the top one.
So even if the dialogue could be confusing, as long as you select the top option, you'll be fine.
