I need to get a villager to invite me over so that I can buy the items that don't look right in their house. Is there a specific way you can force villagers to invite you over? My villager has a toad shirt in their house; it really doesn't fit in with the blue and green theme they have and I have to get rid of it ;; any advice/tips?

I just keep resetting until the villager pings me and invites me over.

It can take a while, but that's how I do it.
Got rid of any unwanted shirts, and still working on the furniture. ^_^

There's an easier way to force villagers to ping you, it just involves diving, and having a little spare time.

There's a guide for how to do it here, it really works, I use it to get pinged for PWP suggestions, but there's a chance they'll ask other things, and possibly invite you over too, it's worth a try!

Before you start though, I'd make sure the villager you want to ping you is outside.

i'm kind of a newbie here, sorry to ask so many questions, but what exactly do you mean by resetting? sorry ;; also, can you only buy one thing per visit? my villager's "friendship" is at max, but for some reason she invited me over more frequently when i first started the game.

It's not a trick. ^_^

All it is, is staying hidden from your villagers for five minutes.

You don't need to be in the water.

Firstly, fill your inventory with shells since they won't try to buy those from you.

Have NO bells on you, so they can't try to sell you anything.

Now, avoid the villager(s) you don't want to ping you, and walk or run past the villager(s) you do want pings from.

They should ping you.

If they don't invite you over, then turn off without saving, and repeat the process. ^_^

Turning your game off without saving. ^_^

Exactly, I know it's not a "trick"! I just prefer to stay in the water, as I'll usually leave my 3DS sitting while I do other things, it avoids unwanted villager contact, and I find it easier than resetting, works either way though!

Good luck on getting invited over, this should work eventually with a little time!

This is really helpful! So I could potentially just stand on the beach for 5 minutes or so? The only problem, though, is I AM trying to buy items (from the villager's house) which means I might waste a lot of time and have them only ping me for selling me stuff ;; is there any way around this?

thank you so much!! i will try this for sure. have you tested out standing around (outside of the villager's sight) instead of diving yet, though? i'm curious if it works.

I mean they should ping you right away.
What I posted is what you do after loading your game.

A villager will usually ping you after you start up.

If they don't ping to invite you over, start again until they do. ^_^

(You don't have to turn off without saving, that's for PWP's. )

I personally haven't, I read an explanation for why you should stay in a far corner, although now I can't find it, so there really might be no basis behind it. I just usually don't pay attention to my game when I'm doing this, so it's easier for me to just swim to a corner! If you don't have a swimsuit I could help you out with that? Good luck anyway!!

Oh, I didn't know that they ping you right away! So you should save when leaving then?

to add onto the diving trick, try to trap the villager you want pings from in holes nearby. that way, you can make sure they are always the villager pinging you, and you don’t end up getting a ping from the wrong villager.

it's not that i don't have a swimsuit, i'm just lazy and i find it a hassle to swim out to the corner every time lol ^^'

this is extremely helpful aa tysm!! so a nearby villager is more likely to ping you, and you should use pitfalls to trap them?

You can, but I don't save, as it seems to make whose outside more random.

I find if I save, the same villagers (not the ones I want) tend to still be outside.

It is random.

It's up to you really. ^_^

Do the Diving Trick. Here's how you do it.

1. Get a wetsuit
2.Fill up your whole inventory with flowers, so that thy won't ask to trade, or buy stuff off you, because they aren't interested in flowers
3.Go into the ocean, into the corner of the map
4. Wait 10 minutes
5. Go back up, and at least one of your villagers should ping you
6.They'll ask you one of 4 things (I think)
-For a new Catchphrase/Greeting
-For a new Public Works Project
-A random question (Depending on Personality)
-To come over or for you to come to their house

Hope this helps!

I already posted about this in this topic, and it's not a trick.

It's avoiding villagers for 5 minutes.
