Villagers in boxes glitch?

I've had Bella the goth mouse in boxes ready to leave my island for three days, but she is still there! Others have invited her to their island, but she hasn't arrived there, either. Any idea what can be done about it?

We've had a few examples of this glitch now. Unfortunately it seems only an Amiibo forced villager can fix the problem.

Unless I'm wrong, and maybe someone else has more information. I'm so sorry this happened to you.
