Villagers disappearing?

Recently i've been noticing that my villagers like to disappear every once and a while for a couple days, and alot of times, they literally vanish! I check everywhere, and they're gone. But they return after a cycle of 3 days it seems. Villagers who have just moved in tend to do this right after their move in day. Does this happen to anybody else, or am I missing something?

They never "vanish" but they do like to hide on Main Street, like the shops, museum, etc. They also go to other villager's houses to hang out. But they will always be somewhere.

I check there too, i guess its them hiding in other houses

True. If I haven't seen a villager in a couple days, I usually go to the museum and find them there.

Sometimes you can find them on the beach. That's where my villagers tend to go
